Bay Road to Rattlesnake Knob to Harris Mt. Road

For this loop it's best to park at Harris Mt. Rd. and walk two miles to Mechanic Street. Go north on Harris Mt. Rd. make a left onto Bay Road and follow it until you reach Mechanic St. Enter the Holyoke Range State Park by going south along a unpaved road. Once you pass the last house on the right, there is a sign for the Janet and Toby Dakin Conservation Area. Here you pick up the Cliffside Trail, shown in blue. Follow this trail uphill until it intersects with the M-M trail. At this point you can go west 0.3 miles to enjoy the views from Rattlesnake Knob


From the Rattlesnake Knob to Harris Mt. Road

This is a moderately strenuous 3.4 mile section over the ridges of Long Mt. Descend steeply down from Rattlesnake Knob to Cliffside Trail. The M-M trail follows several woodland roads before climbing a ridge to reach the top of Hill 775. Here you may sign the trail register. After several up and down climbs along this ridge, you make a steep ascent of Long Mt. along a narrow spur.

After you traverse Long Mt. you descend steeply, sometimes over wooden steps. The trail levels out as you pass through an area rich in mountain laurel before making one final descent before reaching Harris Mt. Road, where your car is waiting.
