From Richmond Road to Greenwood Road is a moderate hike of 5.6 miles over a wide variety of terrain. The hike culminates with a visit to Royalston Falls and a scenic walk along Falls Brook. The 2.9 mile section from Richmond Road to Bliss Hill Road (map above) follows an old woodland road along the north flank of Mayo Hill until you reach Parker Road. The trail leaves the road and climbs to the summit of a hill. Here, a clearing is maintained that beautifully frames Mt. Monadnock. The trail descends very steeply, crosses a stream, and ascends to the top of White Hill. At the bottom of this hill, the M-M trail crosses Bliss Hill Road |

The one mile section from Bliss Hill Road is an interesting path along many old stone walls, a pine plantation and through some large hemlocks before emerging onto Rt. 32. The M-M trail crosses Rt. 32 and passes Newtown Cemetery before descending into a glen. |

You can return by going west on Greenwood Road and turning left (south) onto Rt. 32. Follow the highway to the top of the hill. Bliss Hill Road is on your right. Follow the road to the junction of the M-M trail and retrace your steps westerly back to Richmond Road. |
