And They Called It Puppy Love...

As much as mom and dad loved their feline children, mom missed them terribly when they were away from home.  One of their favorite past times is hiking in the New Hampshire mountains.  Along on these hikes were friends and friend's dogs, namely a perfect miniature poodle and an ex-champion long haired chihuahua.  Total weight between them was approximately 15 pounds.  These girls hiked up many a mountain with less effort than any of the humans.   Mom started thinking, if there was a dog out there that was not much bigger than the cats and could climb with them, this might be a very good thing.  And here is where I come in...

The search began on the Internet.  Mom found many sites to rescue leagues and humane societies across the country.  Every night she would look on-line, but she was still not sure if she would be a good dog mom.  All the things to consider, like not having the freedom to stay out late or worrying about what to do with him during long work days.  What do you do with the dog when you go on vacation?  There were so many things holding them both back...

Life is scary on the first day at my new home...

The search continued for about a year and through many breeds.  One Friday, mom was told about a yorkie rescue in the area.  All the dogs were being held at the humane society that Harley had been adopted from.  Mom stopped by after work and there wasn't any sign of yorkies.  They were still in quarantine and not available for adoption.  She was saying hi to all the other dogs when her eye caught a small black nose poking through the chain link of the kennel.  She read the tag and it said "poodle X".  "Hmmmm, poodle..... not really looking for a poodle....  That nose is darned cute though...  What the heck!  Let's see what this dog looks like out in the sunshine".  She asked the attendant if she could take me outside to get a better look.  I ran around at the end of my leash like a crazy dog.  I think mom put it as "having a few loose screws".  She was about to take me back in because I wouldn't calm down, when she thought to just sit down on the ground.  I took no time in jumping into her lap and looking up at her with my shaggy face and chocolate eyes.  In the sunshine she could see my face better and realized that my cross must be with a terrier breed.  Just what she had been looking for.  She fell in love instantly.  Now to convince dad...
My first haircut...  Hey, I'm a Schnoodle!

When dad came to the shelter to see me, I did the same run around trick until mom told him to sit down on the grass.  I jumped in his lap, gave him the same brown eyed look and he said "OK".  I was adopted that night.  Dad's a push-over...

Now, I could tell you how rough Miss Harley has made my life, but that would just be redundant.  By now you all know her and hopefully love her.  We have figured out that she enjoys being angry more than being at peace, so we are giving her what she wants.  It has taken years, but she is finally coming out and picking fights with me and loving every minute of it.  Mac has been my best friend from the start.  He loved me and stood by me right away, even to the point of giving me his wooby from time to time.  Miss Indy, she stays far away, no matter how much I try to be friends.  I guess I was just the last straw to her.  I'm still not giving up though, someday we will be friends.  Mom says that no one in this house can stay angry with anyone for long.  It's just not allowed.

My dad and me

We all go hiking on weekends and I have climbed many mountains in my years here.  I stay right by them and listen very well.  I don't mind the poodle or the Chihuahua, though they don't seem to be too enthused about me.  I have a good haircut now and l look like the Schnoodle that I am.  I love to play fetch with my tennis ball and I go to daycare twice a week to play with the big dogs.  Duffy and I have completed many classes including obedience and agility.  We compete on some weekends during the summer and it's always fun to see our parents run those courses.

Mom still checks the Internet all the time but Dad doesn't get scared anymore since Duffy came.  She says our house is now pleasantly "full".
