There are many operating systems. One just has to look.
(I don't have the room to list them all but this is just a 'sampling')

Commercially Available Operating Systems

An updated/improved version of IBM's OS/2 Warp
(it  is based on the kernel leased from OS/2).
They are working on version 2.0.
One can get it now with a software subscription.
One can get a demo 'cd' download.

windows

Windows by Microsoft.
The dominant operating system on IBM-compatible computers
but not the only (just one that usually comes preloaded
on new computers). The latest version is Windows 7.
I like WinXP; good for netbooks. Windows
Vista
is okay.



Free Operating Systems (usually open source).

FreeDOS

A free version of DOS. It is being
developed/updated. They have a
gui that works with it.

Linux

This is a vey popular operating system.
It is gaining popularity. There are many
variations.

OSFree
osfree
The site is not really active but the forum
at Yahoo has gained acitivity.

ReactOS
rosbooklet
An operating system that is a clone of WinNT.
It is continually being worked on/developed.
Downloads at Sourceforge. The latest version
is at 0.3.11

Voyager
This is still being developed. It is worth
watching since it is trying to be a
replacement for OS/2 Warp.



OSNews
A good site on different operating systems.
There is also a forum there too (covers
different os's).
