Pens & Pencils

Below are a few pictures of some of the Pens, Pencils, and accessories that Tom has made. Each of the pens & pencils you see here are hand crafted by Tom, using the finest materials available. Each starts with a manufactured kit, which contains the metal parts of the pen/pencil. The exposed metal parts are plated with genuine gold, platinum, rhodium, etc., then coated with a thin epoxy clear coat, to protect this finish, and keep it looking nice for a long, long time. Tom turns the bodies of these pens/pencils on the lathe, from either wood, acrylic, or other materials. The result is a beautiful, uniquely designed pen or pencil, that should last for many years. Each of these pens/pencils are refillable, using replacement parts available at most quality office supply stores. And the best part: if you ever have problems with your pen/pencil, bring it back to Tom. He will either fix or replace it, for free.

There are lots of options available. Many of the pen styles are available as a mechanical pencil, as well. So it's even possible to get a matching pen and pencil set, custom designed, for you! It's also possible to combine several different elements, such as a pen, pencil, and letter opener, and/or magnifying glass. Additionally, Tom can provide beautiful wooden boxes, to accent your beautiful new pen set. Talk about a great gift idea!

The pictures here are a rough representation of the styles and selections available. Tom has made thousands of pens over the years, and it would be impossible to display pictures of each of them. More importantly, the sky is the limit on what's possible. So if you want something custom made, Tom will do his best to meet your needs. If you have a particular piece of wood that you'd like a pen made from, Tom can probably satisfy that desire. So if in doubt, contact him, and see what he has to say!

The status of each item is listed (ie, whether it's available or not). If you see something you like, but it isn't available any longer, don't fear! Most items can be custom ordered. However, be forewarned, it's rarely possible to duplicate something exactly. But Tom will do his best to replicate what you see in the picture, as closely as possible.

Maple, Walnut, and Redheart Segmented Jr Gentleman's Pen

A stunning, unique pen made by gluing together 66 segments of Maple, Black Walnut, and Redheart pieces together in this beautiful pattern, then coated with Cyanoacrylate glue (aka, "Superglue"). The metal components are Black Titanium coated. The writing element is a ceramic tip rollerball.

Purpleheart and Maple layered Pen

Layers of Maple and Purpleheart are glued together, then carved in a unique way to produce this stunning effect. The metal parts are 24k gold.

"Swirls" Chrome Roadster Pen

This is a maple pen, with 8 pieces of interlaced veneers of several different colors, creating a spectacular swirl effect. The Metal parts are chrome, and the pen uses a Cross style insert.

A clever approach to a segmented design, that places alternating pieces of Maple, Ponga Ponga, Oak, and Bloodwood in a checkerboard pattern. The metal parts are 10k gold plated.
