Segmented TurningsSegmented turning opens a whole 'nother realm of design, for woodturning. Tiny pieces of wood are carefully measured, cut, sanded, and glued together, then turned to the final shape. The process is very intricate, and the results are astounding. In general there are two types of segmented work: closed-segmented (typically referred to as just "segmented"), and open-segmented. The primary difference is whether there is a gap between the segments or not. Often the two forms are combined, to make the designs even more interesting. Below you'll see some examples of Tom's segmented work. The status of each item is listed (ie, whether it's available or not). If you see something you like, but it isn't available any longer, don't fear! Most items can be custom ordered. However, be forewarned, it's rarely possible to duplicate something exactly.
