Management May Alter Its Plan to Change Mail-Handler Bid Jobs

During the past few days the union has been working to convince management that its plans to change mail-handler bid jobs throughout the SJ P&DC are wrong. We have held discussions with the union’s regional and national representatives, including the Contract Administration Department, and have gotten their support.

Now there is some indication that management may finally be getting the message. The union has learned that Postal regional managers told Bellmawr managers that some parts of the plan to change mail handler bid jobs violate the National Agreement.

We hear that management is altering its proposed package and will present a new version to Judy Herrick on Friday, April 24. The union is scheduled to meet with management on Monday, April 27.

According to John Macey, Local 308 president, “We wrote to Judy and told her that we will not stand for her plans to affect senior mail handlers. We thought her plan to create 63 general-purpose mail handlers jobs was an insult. Now, she’s calling those jobs relief jobs. Whatever she calls it, it’s wrong to have senior mail handlers forced out of their jobs and into full-time flex jobs.”

The union is committed to keeping mail handlers informed. But we will not report anything unless we have all the information. Keep watching the bulletin board for further developments.
