Facts from the USPS 2007 Annual Report

The Postal Service expects to spend $526 million on labor cases in 2007. That's more than double the $254 million it spent in 2006.

Equal Employment Opportunity cases are down by $11 million. In 2006 the Service spent $66 million in EEO cases. It expects to pay spend $57 million in EEO cases in 2007.

Workers' compensation totaled $7.7 billion in 2007. That's down slightly from what it was in 2006: $7.8 billion.

Today the Postal Service employs 10,000 fewer workers than it did a year ago. The total number of employees is 785,929, from 796,199. However, the Service is employing 1,106 more noncareer employees than it did in 2006. That number went from 100,061 to 101,167.
