Injured on the Job? Overton Can Help.
Ron Overton, a Tour 1 steward, has been appointed by the union to help mail handlers at the SJ P&DC who get injured on the job.
Chances are if you get hurt at work, you've got to deal with confusing paperwork and the dual bureaucracy of the Postal Service's Injury Comp Department and the Department of Labor. What's worse, you often have to do this while you're recovering from an injury and confronting untrained manager's who may not be well versed with injury comp matters.
That's where Ron comes in. Ron has helped injured workers with their workers' comp issues for more than five years. Ron, who's been with the Service 16 years, started as a manual distribution clerk at the GPO. Through a successive number of details, he ultimately worked in the district safety office at 30th St. and side-by-side with the Injury Comp Department. He was later detailed to the BMC where he received further training as the acting Safety Specialist for the BMC. He has also worked with representatives of OSHA with its VPP program, in which he played a major part in making the BMC a VPP Star Site.
Ron joined the mail-handler craft in 2006 and he became a union steward in October 2008. He recently took over the union's safety coordinator position.
