QWL Begins 9/29

The mail-handlers union and management will meet Tuesday, September 29, to formally relaunch the Quality of Work Life (QWL) program at the SJ P&DC.

QWL is a national effort between the mail-handlers union and Postal management. The program seeks to redesign work processes so they're better for workers and more efficient for managers.

National QWL Coordinator Gloria Gray will preside over Tuesday’s meeting. Among the first order of business is to form a joint steering committee, which will serve as QWL’s governing body.

“We’re excited about starting up QWL again,” says Ritchie Dockery, the plant’s QWL coordinator. “QWL has had many successes over the years in many postal facilities across the country. We’re eager to apply QWL principles to our work areas so that mail handlers – at last – have a say in how the work is performed.”
