Rumors Abound that We're Under Article 12
Management has told the union that South Jersey is now under Article 12 withholding. That means that management is reserving any residual jobs for those people whose jobs may be eliminated. However, the mail-handlers union has not received any formal notice that it is under Article 12. We did, however, receive notice that the clerk craft is.
The APWU has told its clerks that management in South Jersey plans to excess approximately 45 clerk positions. It is unknown whether any of those clerks will be absorbed into the mail-handler craft. But if that's management's intent, the union will push to have 1) another "dream bid" and 2) for all PTF's to be made regulars.
Advisory Council Members Announced
The following mail handlers have volunteered to serve on the first Advisory Council. Council members will help the union identify and correct problems. The following council members will serve a three-month term effective June 1.

Union Watching for Weekly ODL Violations
Now that management has told casuals and PTF's working in the Culling Area that they must stay on the job each day until all the work has been done, that's sure to put them in cumulative overtime status as soon as Wednesday of each week. The contract states that the ODL list must be depleted before management can give overtime to PTF's and casuals. So, the union will be watching that area closely and it has a standing request for the clock rings of all PTF's and casuals.
If the PTF's and casuals go into overtime status when the ODL list has not been depleted, then the union can demand that management pay those on the ODL list for every unit the casuals and PTF's work overtime.
