An Open Letter to the Plant Manager:
There is a growing level of confusion and concern throughout the plant about various project managers, such as in-plant support personnel, instructing workers to perform certain tasks. The union views the intrusion by these project managers as unnecessary. Further, if management was going to create an alternate managerial process, the union should have been notified in advance.
Among the union's concerns:
- How do these project managers relate to supervisors on the workroom floor?
- What if one order contradicts another?
- Who notifies the regular supervisor if a project manager instructs a worker to perform a new task?
The union asserts that this unannounced change in procedures is yet another circumstance when management has totally ignored the collective bargaining process. It's time management realizes that the union will not tolerate management's indifference to the National Agreement. That agreement, which Postmaster General Jack Potter has signed, is not a one-sided document. Management is responsible to comply, too.
The union requests a meeting with the plant manager to discuss this unauthorized alternate managerial process.
