Le Carousel,
Bryant Park, Manhattan Island, New York

Le Carousel is a French-themed carousel located in Bryant Park, behind the historic New York public library in Manhattan. The carousel was designed to blend into the natural scene of the park's trees and bushes, and hence the animals are uniquely colored and decorated. (the horses are colored a rather odd aqua green)

The carousel went up in 2002. The animals are fiberglass, and some of the paint already was showing signs of wear when I rode it in July of 2003 as part of my Anthrocon 2003 / NYC trip. The carousel plays a unique mix of classic carousel music plus French opera and sung--a very lovely experience to be riding on a rabbit amongst the trees while soft French music plays.

Another angle. Hard to get a picture as this is a small carousel and the animals are rather close together.
