I am putting everything I know about my Bush/Busch
lineage on this page, in hopes that other Bush family researchers
will see it and will share information. If you find any difference, please
let me know. Let's put our collective searches together and see if we can
find new information, extend and fill out
this lineage!
If you have any information
PLEASE
do let me know!

George (Jurig) Adam BUSCH/BUSH came from Daisbach, Germany 23 Jul 1721 with his birth record at Neckargemund and was baptised at Zuzanhausen, Germany. He was listed as a 13 year old on the ship "Hope" list in 1733 with his parents, Hans Michael (36) and Evan (36?) BUSCH with his siblings: Johann Ludwig (11); Maria Margaretha (9); and Johannes (7). Three more childre named as George Michael (5); Anna Barbara (3) and Johann Adam b Feb 1733 were evidently left behind until the family became settled. Father, Hans Michael, was recorded as buried "on his own land" 29 Jul 1749. The family was closely connected to the Tulpehocken, PA area families.
George BUSH took Oath for Naturalization for an American citizen on 21 Jun 1763 (Chalkley's Vol.1 pg. 108)
George Adam BUSCH is believed to have married Anna "Dorothea" KATTERMAN 17 Jan 1750 at the Christ "Little Tulpehocken" Lutheran KB Church in Berks Co., PA. Anna "Dorothea" KATERMAN was b. 13 Feb 1729, d/o Weyrich and Elisabetha KATERMAN who came to PA on 6 May 1738.
Known children of George were: Adam BUSH, who m. Margaret HAGLE; John, killed in April 1791 by Indians on Freemans Creek, Lewis Co.,VA; and Elizabeth, who married Paulser BUTCHER.
George had will dated 15 Oct
1811 in part of Harrison Co.,VA that became Upshur Co.,WV. Paulser BUTCHER
was named as one of administrators. It is thought that George lived to
be 100 years old until 1820. However records show he was involved in unscruplous
land deals (Harrison Co,WV Chancery Files) so his reputed age of 100 may
not be correct.
[Most of the above information
was researched by David Armstrong, Elkins, WV]
Deed Book #9, pg.471 - 116 acres on South Branch of Potomac. (Also see same book): Deed Bk.#11 pg.435 - for sale of 116 acres. This deed named George Bush and wife Susannah selling to Sebastian Hover. (Also see Chalkleys Vol.1 Augusta Co., Order Bk. #8)
The Hackers Creek settlement in Harrison/Lewis Co.,(W)VA of George Adam BUSH was 1½ miles up the Buckhannon River from the Upshur Co., (W)VA courthouse - at the mouth of the Hackers Creek near Bush's Fort.
It is the assumption of family researchers that while Adam Bush and his wife, Margaret (Hagle) lived on Freemans Creek, while he was the closest neighbor of John Bush who was killed by Indians then this is probably the home where George Adam Bush was living when his will was written, and probably where he lived when he died.
Dec 1807 - Petition of inhabitants of remote section askign legislature not repeal additional rewards on wolf scalps, signed by (adjacent signatures): Jacob Bush, Alex. White, Peter Bush, Michel Bush, Lenard Bush, George Fisher, George Conley, Valentin Butcher, Palser Butcher . [Harrison Co., petitions, ibid.]
[Most of
the above information was researched by David Armstrong, Elkins,
WV]Thanks so much to David, who has solved many of
the Bush and Butcher research problems with his intensive and thorough
research. He has been a great help to all of us. If you remember, he, along
with Jeff Carr, broke the Butcher lineage back to Niederlinxweiler, Germany,
and the Butcher and Bush lineages have intertwined for many generations.
David is very active and helpful to other researchers.
[David
wants to list this disclaimer: "If people are using materials that he wrote
in letters or articles years ago should be aware that while he has always
worked out of primary sources, some of the old material and conclusions
long ago, may be changed or are changing and are always subject to expansion
and update. - Now you know how thorough he is as a researcher.]
All of the above information is tied to Branch #1 that is found in many of the 23 issues of BUSH BRANCHES
From: "Border Settlers of Northwestern Virginia" page 256 - "To the foregoing testimony was added that of Jacob BUSH, November 24, 1832. Bush, whose declaration for pension appears in Chapter X, this volume, knew Lowther (Colonel William) as early as 1779, at which time he was Captain. In 1781 he was promoted to the rank of Major, and was with Col. Crockett in General Clark's campaign. "
"Michael Stump, Justice, testified
to the good character of Jacob Bush, which entitled him to full credit
on oath."
