| The purpose of this web site is to introduce Torquay
collectors to the broad range of Art Pottery produced by the Torquay Potteries. Torquay "Art
Pottery" is defined as all pieces that DO NOT look like traditional mottoware produced by the Torquay
Potteries.
|
| Design themes of Art Pottery were surprisingly
consistent from pottery to pottery, but these common design themes were executed
differently by each pottery. The widest range of Art Pottery was produced
after the First World War (1914-18) through the 1930's and can be categorized by four
major design themes. These themes may direct you to new adventures in Torquay
collecting. |

The examples above do not even come close to covering all the types of
Art Pottery produced by the Torquay Potteries in the 1920's and 1930's. However, the
themes of landscapes, flowers, birds and abstract designs are the most common. The
diversity and quality of these pieces continues to impress collectors. |
| Mottoware is not all that Torquay has to offer!
