Mouse number 6

My dad babysat Ben last night, and told me he killed a mouse. Apparently Ben was already in bed and this mouse came running across the living room and Taz chased it down. My dad stunned it with his boot and flushed it down the toilet. This was the first mouse that wasn't either trapped or already found dead. Thankfully it wasn't running around near Ben or he may have thought it was a toy...YUCK!

Avoid the Walmart portrait studio

We just got screwed for the 2nd time at the Walmart portrait studio in Coon Rapids. The first time we didn't get enough envelopes, which are kind of needed to mail them to family and friends (don't 'cha think?). Now we went back to try our luck one more time, and they screwed up our order again! The wrong pose was printed on a Christmas postcard of Ben we planned to mail out. USE CAUTION and avoid this store at all costs, at least for portraits of your kids, or you may be sorry!

CFC as web service gotcha

I found a quirk with a CFC setup with access="remote" today and wanted to blog for future reference. I have a CFC that takes 2 parameters, 1 is required, and the other is optional. When I invoke the WSDL, and only pass along the 1 required parameter, I get the following Error Message: Web service operation "FunctionName" with parameters {PER_ID={100623},} could not be found. Since I recently added this second optional parameter, I tried refreshing the web service stub to no avail. To get around this, I had to pass in the optional parameter with its default value to make sure that logic didn't run any differently.

KFAN restaurant gone

The KFAN restaurant in Roseville never made it to its 2nd birthday. It opened in Dec, 2003, but back in mid Sept 2005, the owners broke their ties to Clear Channel, and changed the name to Big City Tavern. That was a quick flop for Clear Channel's grand plan to open many similar eateries across the country.

Curt's on his way home from Iraq!

Bonnie's brother Curt has finished his mission with the Army and is headed home from Iraq as I type. Remarkably, he has a short layover in Minneapolis tonight (flying Northwest), so we plan to meet him at the airport for a quick visit. I'm sure it will be very emotional, Bonnie is totally excited. His wife Amy is also overjoyed, as today is her birthday, what a perfect gift! Amy had this to say in an email today, "Guess he set some land-speed records in Balad when he found out there was a seat open on the rotator back to the states. He finished his out-processing in record time! We can all breathe a sigh of relief...what a great birthday present!"

I'm officially an author!

I just had my first ever article published in ColdFusion Developer's Journal - CFDJ. I wrote about building a zip-code proximity search using CF. I kept the code to a minimum and focused on the overall project and the steps I took to implement the solution. You can read it online here.
