Cold Stone Creamery free birthday treat

I signed up for the birthday club at Cold Stone Creamery's web site, and was supposed to get a coupon for a free treat via email. I never received it, and kind of forgot about it since my birthday was almost two weeks ago now. Surprise! Today I got an email with an apology that they never sent out the coupon email the day of my birthday. A new coupon was provided and I've got two more weeks before it expires, thanks Cold Stone!

We hope you had a happy birthday. It has come to our attention that birthday coupons for April 15th birthdays were not distributed. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. To receive your free ice cream Creation, click here to print your coupon. It can be redeemed at any store and is valid through Friday, May 12, 2006.

Enjoy your belated birthday treat!

Yahoo Mail beta

Yahoo Mail beta
Originally uploaded by webdh.
I've been waiting for my invitation to the new Yahoo mail for a loooong time, and finally tonight, it arrived! I saw this unexpected new welcome screen after logging in to my email. My first impression is very positive, it now gives you tabbed email views (similar to Firefox's tabbed windows), an email preview pane, and you can drag/drop emails to a folder in the left pane. I think this will now blow Gmail away, good stuff!

Scary Wichita street drains

Wichita street drains
Originally uploaded by webdh.
Look at this huge sewer drain on a suburban city street in Mulvane, KS (south of Wichita). A young child or pet could easily chase a ball and get stuck in here. These are very dangerous and should be blocked by a safety grate! Do drains like this exist in other cities? Glad we don't live in this neighborhood for this reason alone.

CF7 added method=get to cfform

In some code I was working on today, I found a thread at House of Fusion that CFMX6.x didn't support method=get in the CFForm tag. It basically ignored that attribute, and automatically stuck in METHOD="POST" in the HTML output. Thankfully they fixed it in 7! Here's a snippet about this in the new docs.

ColdFusion MX 7:
  • Added the method attribute and support for the GET method.

Dino's Gyros - my first impression

I ate at Dino's (Snelling and Larpenteur) for the first time ever today. This is a bit surprising, considering it is a pretty well known Twin Cities establishment and they now have 7 metro locations according to their site. I ordered the Philly Gyro combo meal: gyro, fries, drink. The philly was very tasty, I loved it. The fries at Dino's are awful. You get a large order, but about half of the fries were very greasy. I'd like to go back, but next time I'll probably pass on the fries and order a salad for my side.

Quiznos new Prime Rib

I've seen the TV ads, heard the radio ads, got coupons in the mail, and was very enticed to try this new sub at Quiznos. Overall, I was not impressed, but I did eat the whole thing since I was pretty hungry at lunch yesterday. In my opinion, it looks really good in the ads, but tastes nothing special when you bite in. My meat was very fatty, and I found myself pulling fat chunks out of my mouth - yuck! Also, the sandwich was pretty dry, I guess I expected the meat to be moist and juicy. I'll give this sub a grade of D and stick to my A-favorite Milano next time.

Flickr badge

The Flickr badge tool is not easy to find at the flickr.com site (unless I'm just blind), so I thought I'd blog it in case others are looking. This tool lets you create a Flash movie that pulls images off flickr based on a keyword or photos in your account or set. It spits out some html that you copy and paste into your blog or any Web page of your liking.

Home Depot kids project day

I took Ben to Home Depot last Saturday and found out it was Kid's Workshop day. Apparently they do this the first Saturday of each month, from 9am - 12noon. We checked it out and this time they were building a bird feeder. Just sign up your kid's name and they get a free small orange HD apron and their very own project kit. Wow, what a great way to let kids build something with hammer and nails, doesn't take all day, and they take it home to keep. Ben is still too young, as he was more interested in pushing our cart than building his bird house. But we'll go back when he gets a little older. If you have kids 3 and older, I highly recommend this great service, kudos to Home Depot!
