Ben's whoopi cushion

I took a funny video of Ben tonight with a whoopi cushion I won at the State Fair. I thought I'd try posting on YouTube, but I kept the video private. Enjoy!

2006 State Fair SCSU booth

I volunteered to work at the St. Cloud State booth in the Education Bldg at the State Fair this year. I had a great time putting tons of Husky and Logo tatoos on all the people who stopped by. We also handed out at least 100+ cardboard Husky mascot fans. I also met these fellow alums and we had a guy from each of the past 3 decades (70's, 80's, and 90's) during our 1-5pm shift.

Google Writely

Google recently put out a new online beta called Writely. It's a free browser based word processor, sure to heat up their battle with Microsoft even more. The weird thing is I don't see it on labs.google.com, and it doesn't have the typical Google branding. I found out about it from a weekly CMX web development email newsletter I'm subscribed to, where they noted: Writely is an online word processor that lets you store files online so that you can edit and/or print them from anywhere you have an internet connection. It seems compatible with just about any type of format that you'd expect from a word processor, and lets you download files in pdf format, Word format, RTF, HTML or even Open Office. You can also upload pictures to be placed into your documents. Looks cool to me, check it out at www.writely.com.

Only 3 turf stadiums in MLB

I was looking at the expanded baseball standings today and it struck me that only 3 teams play on artificial turf in their home ballparks: Twins, Devil Rays, and Blue Jays. It will be down to two teams once the Twins stadium opens in 2010. That's pretty amazing, I bet it was more like half turf, half grass, before the ballpark building era began in the early 90's.

Morneau gets #30!

It's been almost 20 years since the Twins have had a 30 homer player, and Justin Morneau did it tonight! It couldn't have come at a better time, as his 2-run, 8th inning blast helped the Twins beat the Tigers 4-3. Way to go Justin, right up there with Herbie, Bruno, and the G-Man of 1987.

After the games tonight, the win put the Twins in first place for the Wild Card, another monumental step towards the post-season.
Minnesota 67 46 -- 49
Chi White Sox 66 46 0.5 50
Boston 65 47 1.5 50
Toronto 60 54 7.5 48

KARE 11's WeatherSpy gallery

I posted my first weatherspy image a few weeks ago at kare11.com. Today I checked to see if it made the cut. They probably post all of them, but need to make sure you aren't posting anything vulgar.

Here's my picture of a big storm cloud viewed from an airplane window.

Costco coming to Maple Grove

The next addition to the Arbor Lakes shopping area is called The Fountains, and it will contain a Costco, their 4th MN store. Yeah, this will be closer for us, and we like going up that way once in a while for other shopping and dining. Here's a list I found of all the other retailers who are signed on. One mention on the list is Dave & Buster's, which is an adult friendly gaming and dining place. I also read in the Star Trib that Trader Joe's plans to open a store in the new Arbor Lakes development.
