Brothers

Each year Anoka County Chapter 470 of the Vietnam Veterans of America sponsors the Memorial Day Program on the
capitol grounds at 2:30 PM. My Dad wrote and read this poem yesterday.

BROTHERS

We are all still brothers, though each from a different family.
The common bond among us….keeps our Nation safe and free.

When we were so much younger, this Country called on us.
We stepped out tall and proud, to do the things we must.

The tasks at times were hellish and difficult to put behind.
Recalling our brothers lost, is etched indelibly in the mind.

The war is still debated and many people have taken sides.
On this we must agree; “It’s NOT the troops, but the politicians who decide.”

Memorial Day reminds us of those who have gone ahead.
We honor and salute them, giving praise by what is said.

The granite wall behind us, preserves your precious name.
Each of you a hero; not one was seeking fame.

We cannot bring them back, but often wish we could.
Their memory and their sacrifice, remembered….just as it should.

Yes, we became like brothers, and will remain until the end.
Love of Country, love of freedom, we’ll forever call each other friend.

Lost my first game of Facebook Scrabulous

My friend Kristina beat me, but it was well played by both. She had some good luck and skills to pull off some huge words down the stretch. I only led 4 times in the game, and tied it near the end before she pulled away for good. Fun times.

I want to extend my sincere thanks for your support of MS Walk 2008 which took place on Sunday, May 4th. To date, you helped me raise $1635, which I turned in on the day of the walk. My Walk For Barb team's grand total was $2240, and with company matches not yet reflected, this will be a new record year. Additional thanks go out Secure Computing and Thrivent Financial for their generous employee matching programs.

We were very fortunate with weather this year, and had a gorgeous spring day with sunny skies. With the nice day, we were able to walk the extended 6.5 mile route, and Abby and Ben did great. It was Abby's first MS Walk and Ben loved the snacks at the rest stops.

I'll be mailing personal thank-yous soon to those who sent checks, and will include a receipt for tax reporting. For those who pledged online, you already received the email receipt that you can print out. Let me know if you'd like a hand written paper copy.

Thanks again to all! We'll look forward to walking again next year.
