My 3rd Full Scale Motorized Dalek Building Project
This web page shows some photos of my most recent Dalek
build that was completed on 29 February 2004. The full scale building project
plans were obtained free from internet web site of the
Dalek Builders Guild.
This build is my 3rd full scale motorized Dalek. The documentation of my
first Dalek Build is chronicled in
My Full Scale Dalek Build Web Page.
The building techniques used for this
Dalek build is exactly the same as what has been documented in my
2nd full Scale Dalek build Web Page.
Although the construction techniques was the same this Dalek differs in
appearance as I used a black and gold color scheme. In addition, all 3 of
these Dalek builds differ as I used surplus or junked parts from old medical
scooters and wheelchairs for powering the motorized Dalek. This project is
different from my previous 2 builds as the prime mover came from parts of
an old electric mobility scooter (see photo below).
The photo above is the completed base section of this Dalek build. This motorized Dalek uses a electric mobility motor and transmission to power the Dalek. The motor speed and break controller box is located under the operator seat. The deep cycle battery sits on top of the 3/4" wooden base. The front steering unit has the on/off switch, forward and reverse speed control, and pivots up and down to allow the operator easy maneuvering of the Dalek.
As with my other 2 Dalek builds, I again used Shawcraft Robotics, Andy Shaw for the fiberglass Dome and dome lights. Nobody does it better as Andy is the man when it comes to making these domes! If you considering building a Dalek you can't go wrong here.
Please stay tuned as I intend to enter this new Dalek in the 2004 Toms River Halloween Parade. My first Dalek build took a 3rd place trophy and my 2nd Dalek build took a first place last year in the 2003 Halloween Parade.
Below is a photo taken inside of my garage, showing all 3 of my motorized Dalek builds. It has been a lot of fun building these guys. Yet there will be more fun to come using them for what they were intended to do, exterminate, exterminate, exterminate.
