From Barbara:
You will find the "Japanese tape" is
marvelous. You take it from the roll to the dogs ear without
spraying anything on it. You clean the ear with alcohol and let
it dry. Then proceed with putting the tape on the ear. The longer
the tape is on the ear the "tackier" it is. When you
remove the tape we have found that DETACHOL is one of the best
products to remove the residue from the ear. It will look greasy
for about 20 min or so but will quickly be absorbed and dry
up....leaving a "showable" ear. You can get creative
with this new tape. I showed a lot of people at the National in
Tucson what I have learned to do with this tape. People have said
that I should give a seminar on Ears using this tape. Maybe now
that someone is bringing it in and making it available to
everyone that would be feasable. If you see me at a show and YOU
have the tape I will gladly show you some neat tricks with
it.....on the other hand if YOU have learned neat tricks with it
then PLEASE show me. I love the tape and have done ears as early
as 7 wks.....it stays where you put it. Just remember it is
called "adhesive plaster" and it will not hurt the ear
unless you do something dumb with it like fold the ear in half
with the tape and cut off the circulation to the tip of the ear.
Have fun.....Barbara

From Dawn:
Regarding hands being clean while taping the ears, I just
discovered that myself today. AND ..where my thumb had touched,
it got dull and obviously lost it's "sticky" stuff.
I did the following and it is sticking like crazy now!
1) cleaned his ears REAL good with alcohol, rubbing to make sure
to remove all dirt and oils and making sure all previous
"gunk" from prior taping was removed.
2) Washed hands and cut the strip a bit longer to allow me to cut
the ends off where I had to touch it. I cut the little center and
folded it up..then held it THERE while cutting off the ends where
I touched it before.
3) I then tried to touch the actual sticky part of the tape as
little as possible while putting in the brace, and the loopies.
(do you like my terminology..loopies and gunkies?) LOL
I would definately put in the instructions to make sure that
hands are clean, not to touch the sticky surface. And to make
sure ears are rubbed real clean with alcohol to remove dirt and
oils. . . . . . . Dawn

From Robin:
Can't believe it...Got my box of tape today and I only mailed the
check on 7/11/98 and its the 17th today...Received it in 6
days....Now thats fast and much appreciated...Have been anxiously
waiting for it.....No more bald spots on the head from
speedsew....How can I stand it....
Well did up the ears today with my new Japaneese
tape....did up 4 and they look wonderful...Guess I need to Thank
Shiela Monks for starting me off using Japaneese tape in the
first place and showing me how at Arizona Natl....couldn't get
any more tape so when it came over the list was really excited to
be able to order it...Love that tape. . . . . . Robin

Question from Billie:
I have a question about the new ear tape. Just
got mine. Yea, we are still fighting to keep Windys' ears tipped!
When I roll it and stick it on are the ears suppose to lay flat
like when I used the eyelash glue? I used it last night and they
are a little red today, how long should I leave it on? She is so
tiny I don't really know how far down to put it. Boy do I feel
dumb! Also how much
of the ear should have tape on it?
Response from Barbara:
Hi. It's hard to figure what you are doing but
I will give a brief description of what you should be doing. Take
a strip of tape longer than the distance from the bottom of the
ear (near that knob at the base of the ear) and extend it past
the top of the ear about one inch. Then turn the excess part of
the strip at the top of the ear and position it to about the
middle of the tape inside the ear. This will give the ear a curl
instead of being flat. This differs from what is on the web site
but works better. Why is the ear red and are you removing it
constantly etc. What did you clean the surface of the ear with
and what remover did you buy at the hospital supply...possibly
your sheltie is alergic to the remover you are using. It is hard
to explain on the "net" how to solve these ear
problems....but do not make the ear "flat" when turning
the tip over. . . . Barbara

From Robin:
You cannot believe how many people that have E-
mailed me privately asking for help...so this is how I do it...I
first cut off 6 squares and put them on my grooming arm to
hold...then I cut out my brace....first off I put one square in
each ear...then I put in my brace tabs down not up...then I take
another square and put over the tabs in the ears....the last two
I roll sticky side out...put on tip of ear and add a little speed
sew to the outside edge of tape and glue to the square covering
the tab in each ear and it holds forever.....Cannot thank you
enough for getting this tape and I truly love it...Next to
moleskin which I never did use as it seemed to make the dogs
headshy the dogs don't mind the tape at all....again thanks and
keep it up...it will be awhile as I ordered a full box but would
like to know it is and will always be available.... Robin

From Charlie:
I love this stuff ! I wasn't
sure at first just how to use it, but found it great when I read
the directions!! I would like to order 2 more rolls but I do not
want to hog the market, since others who have not received any
would be left out. Let me know if I should wait. But I do want to
be put on the list for 2 more and when I hear it is a go, my
check will come to you asap as before. Thanks, and my 4, 7 week
olds thank you! . . . . Charlie

From Billie, Crystal, and Windy:
Hi! Now that I had a few trial and misses I Love This
Tape!! No more messes!! Please do let me know when you
have more in! Thanx . . . . . . Billie, Crystal, & Windy

From Dawn:
I finally located the DETACHOL at a medical supply pharmacy. It
is a wonderful product for removing the tape. I just used it on
Jesse and was amazed. Putting some on a cotton swab and gently
inserting under the tape, lifts it off immediately. Then putting
some on a cotton ball and cleaning the rest of the ear, removes
any gunkies and even old glue globs. It really does leave a nice
showable ear. I also used alcohol on a cotton ball afterwards. It
is a bit greasy, although I hear that dries away. Because I am
putting the brace right back in, I wanted to make sure, so used
alcohol. Anyway, that Detachol works quickly and easily on our
puppies, leaving a nice clean ear. That could come in handy if
someone has problem ears and wants to leave those braces in until
a half hour or hour before ring time. I really love the tape, the
problem has always been the time it takes to get them out safely,
and clean them up well enough to put another in. Detachol takes
care of that!. . . . . . . Dawn

From Lynda:
Adhesive Remover: There have been times when numerous people have
asked about different kinds of adhesive remover to help remove
the glue and tape in the puppies ears. I've come across Uni-Solve
(obtained at the drug store) which works extemely well. It's
manufactured by Smith & Nephew Inc specifically for removing
tape and adhesive dressings. It's not greasy like many others and
disolves the glue instantly.
The cost is about $9.00 for an 8oz bottle - if your drug store
doesn't have it on the shelf be sure to ask if they can special
order it for. It's worth the investment and the puppies don't
seem to mind have the Japenese tape removed... By the way - the
tape works extremely well and I don't have the mess of fabric
glue stuck in my dogs coats . . . . . Lynda
Note: That same
product is available at hospital supply in the individual packets
as well as in the can. The packets are great to take along in the
grooming box. . . . . . . . Barbara
