Campout
Oxbow Park
May 15-16, 2009
This month's campout will be at Oxbow Park located in Troutdale along the Sandy River. This will be a good campout for younger scouts who don't have a lot of camping experience as no specific gear or skills will be needed, this will also be a fun activity for the older boys because they won't have to worry about digging in the snow or carrying a pack for miles. The goal of this campout is just to have a good time and learn some of the most basic camping skills like starting a campfire and cooking on a propane stove. Fishing is allowed at the park, boys who have an interest in fishing can bring their gear and fish from the Sandy River, this weekend Oxbow Park is hosting a demonstration on two handed fly fishing, any boys who are interested in learning about fly fishing will be able to visit booths showing casting techniques and gear needed to fly fish.
We'll meet at the chapel on Friday at 4:15pm to leave by 4:30. The park has several campsites that are available on a first come first served basis, an early arrival Friday afternoon will get us the best campsites. Each boy should bring a tin foil dinner along with any snacks for Friday night, the troop will provide a pancake breakfast Saturday morning. As with any campout boys will need to bring their own camping gear as listed in the campout gear list. Boys are encouraged to share tents and should make arrangements ahead of time. Weather is supposed to be clear for the weekend, but it is unpredictable this time of year, boys should plan accordingly. We will return to the chapel no later than 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon.
