Troop 4
First, ALL TROOP 4 CAMPOUTS WILL BE PEANUT AND NUT FREE.
Patrols and Patrol Leaders have been informed that all food
preparation and meal planning should strictly avoid these items. The Patrols
including allergic scouts will have adult assistance in the purchasing of
campout meals.
Second, Scouts have been asked not to
bring snacks, candy or food that contain peanuts or nuts to any campout or
Troop or Patrol meeting. You can help in this regard when helping your son
prepare for a campout.
Third, a parent of one of the food
allergic scouts will attend all campouts that one of these scouts attends.
Fourth, the parent, the scout and
Scoutmaster Hancock will have the necessary emergency medicine to be used in
the event of an unintentional ingestion of a dangerous allergen by one of these
scouts.
Fifth, at any Troop 4 event, the
responsible parent and Scoutmaster Hancock will investigate the availability of
emergency medical assistance if it should be necessary.
As predicted, the Scouts in Troop 4
have
risen to this challenge and have been very supportive of these efforts. Many
have experienced this issue at their school, and all are interested in keeping
their friends and fellow scouts safe. They know instinctively that keeping
everyone in our community safe benefits all of us and our own well-being.
We believe that these procedures will
assist in making Troop 4 events safe and enjoyable for all
Scouts, including those who must personally deal with this difficult issue.
These small accommodations (i.e., no nuts or peanuts, etc.) at Troop 4 events
will help us all maintain a safe and enjoyable experience and keep happy events
from turning to tragic ones.
If you have comments or questions, or if
you would like to learn more about this continuing issue, please call Troop 4
