On the evening of April 23, 1991, Scoutmaster David Hart, two other adults, several fifth-grade boys, and their parents met to organize a Boy Scout troop. At the end of that meeting, six of those boys became the first members of Troop 72. Our first troop meeting was two nights later, and one more boy joined at that time. We divided the troop into two patrols and began weekly meetings.
Our first camping trip was the weekend of June 8-9, 1991, at Pine Coulee Farm, with all seven Scouts in attendance. That trip began a great camping tradition in Troop 72. Since that time we have averaged 25 nights of scout camping per year, or about two nights each month...spring, summer, fall and winter.
The troop's advancement record has been far above average, both in the number of Scouts advancing and in the number of merit badges earned. From its' modest beginnings, Troop 72 has gone on to produce a number of Eagle Scouts well in excess of the national average of 1%-3% of all Boys who join Scouting.
