In addition, the troop provides
a robust and active outdoor adventure program. There are multiple treks each
year ranging from 5 mile overnighters to packing into the Emigrant Wilderness
for a week of deep wilderness camping. The troop also has a Venture program
for older boys with a more rigorous high adventure hiking and camping program.
All
of our leaders have attended or will attend Blue Oak (Basic Scoutmaster Fundamentals)
and our Scoutmaster and most Assistant Scoutmasters have attended High
Adventure Training (HAT).
Founded
in 1968, Our troop goal is to foster leadership by promoting an environment
where the boys take on responsibility for running the troop. Boys are encouraged
to take junior leadership training and participate in programs like Brownsea
and White Stag. Of the
graduates in these programs, several have served in staff positions in both
organizations.
The
program has resulted in having recent Eagle Scouts gain acceptance to Stanford
and UC Berkeley, has produced National Merit Scholars and Semifinalists and
current scouts have served as elected officers of their high school classes.
