His godparents were Giacomo Pietro Adami, his apparent namesake, and Cattarina Sartori.[Bap 1800] He married Giovanna Maria Tognazzini, whose family lived in the Riveo and Someo area a couple kilometers upriver from Giumaglio. They had as many as 12 children:

The parish census of 1817 recorded that Giacomo Pietro may have been born on June 7, 1796[Cen 1817], however, three subsequent censuses all state he was born on May 8, 1800.

The first likely daughter, Domenica, has yet to be confirmed. Her death record stated she was the daughter of "Giovanni Pietro Cerini," but none of the others had children in the early 1820s. Her birth was during a period of missing parish records (1808-1826). Domenica was buried at the parish cemetery at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. She was about 16 years old.[Dth 1838]

Eldest sons Giovanni Pietro and Pietro (Antonio) both took out loans on May 30, 1855, to travel to Australia. One, probably both, traveled aboard the Adèle[Gentilli 34], which departed Antwerp and arrived in Sydney on November 8, 1855. What became of Giovanni Pietro is unknown, but Pietro (Antonio) was natrualized and lived out the rest of his days in Victoria, Australia.[Gentilli 34]

Son Battista6 is said to have made at least two trips to California, apparently one in 1880, perhaps with his eldest son Pietro, but did not settle there permanently. Battista's children all eventually emigrated to America.

Giacomo Pietro Cerini died on September 26, 1860, in his home in Giumaglio. He was buried two days later in the cemetery at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. He was 60 years old.[Dth 1860]

Giovanna Maria (Tognazzini) Tognazzini died 15 years later on January 31, 1876, at her home in Giumaglio. She was buried the following day in the parish cemetery at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. She was 71 years old.[Dth 1876]

Antonio Marcello CERINI (1802-1866)

July 2013A1134. Antonio Maria Marcello Cerini was born and baptized on October 9, 1802, in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. His godparents were Antonio Maria Lafranchi of the nearby town of Coglio and Mrs. Marianna Cerini (relationship as yet undetermined).[Bap 1802] He married Maria Giacomina Piezzi and had at least 10 children:

A1134A. Maria Cattarina Cerini 30 Oct 1829 --  --
A1134B. Maria Teresa Assunta Cerini 3 Mar 1832 --  --
A1134C. Giovanni Giacomo Cerini 27 Sep 1833 --  --

A1134I. Marianna Rosa Cerini 14 Oct 1848 30 Sep 1864 (15)
A1134J. Giuseppe Cerini 25 Jun 1853 --  --

They may have been married on February 11, 1827, in Giumaglio, but the record incorrectly names the bride as "Maria Angela," yet correctly names her father, Giuseppe. Antonio is simply named as "Antonium of the late other Antonii Cerini."[Mar 1827]

Giacomina was named as the godmother of Antonio's nephew, Giovanni Pietro Cerini in 1828[Bap 1828] and Antonio Marcello was named as the godfather of Giacomina's nephew Giuseppe Vittorio Piezzi in 1853.[Bap 1853]

Eldest son Giacomo took out a loan of 1,000 francs in 1854 to emigrate to Australia.[Cheda 341] According to Gentilli, Giacomo may be the one who traveled aboard the Morning Star, which arrived in Melborne on August 21, 1854.[Gentilli 34] Later, Antonio took out a loan of 1,000 francs from Celestino Righetti, of nearby Someo, to repay his son's debt in 1861.[Cheda 341] Gentilli futher adds that this Giacomo worked as a miner at Wonderful Reef Mine near Heburn, Victoria, between 1871 and 1872.[Gentilli 34]

Antonio Maria Marcello Cerini died in his home in Giumaglio on December 19, 1866, at the age of 64. He was buried the following day in the cemetery at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1866]

Maria Angiola CERINI (1809-1849)

A1136. Maria Angiola Cerini was born on September 15, 1809, probably in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. No baptism record for Angiola has been found to confirm that she was in fact Antonio and Teresa's daughter, because parish baptism records from 1809 until 1826 are lost to history.

She appears not to have ever married and lived with elder brother Giacomo Pietro3 at the time of her death in 1849.[Dth 1849,Reg ~1851]

Maria Angiola Cerini died on May 6, 1849, at her brother's home in Giumaglio. Interestingly, she was the first in a series of four deaths that month, however, no causes of death are disclosed. All four died at home and were between the ages of 16 and 64. Angiola was buried the following day at the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.[Dth 1849, Reg ~1851] She was 39 years old.

Maria Innocentia/Perpetua CERINI (1795)

August 2013A1141. Maria Innocentia/Perpetua Cerini was born and baptized on November 2, 1795, in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. At her baptism she was christened as "Maria Innocentia," apparently named for her godmother and apparent aunt Maria Innocentia (Cerini) Pozzi. Her godfather was Giovanni Giacomo Pedrotti.[Bap 1795] She was afterward noted as "Maria Perpetua" and "Maria Giacoma Perpetua" in the church censuses.[Cen 1795, 1817]

One of the two sisters, "Maria Jacoba," died on November 13, 1827, at the age of "about 30 years." She was buried the following day at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Giumaglio.[Dth 1827]

Maria Giacomina CERINI (1799)

August 2013A1142. Maria Giacomina Cerini was born and baptized on December 2, 1799, in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. Her godparents were her maternal uncle Giovanni Antonio Lafranchi and Marianna Giumini.

Anna Maria CERINI (1800)

A1143. Anna Maria Cerini was born and baptized on June 8, 1800, in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. Her godparents were Giovanni Antonio Cerini (relationship as yet undetermined ) and Mrs. Maria Barbara Pozzi.[Bap 1800] Anna Maria (presumed to be this Anna Maria, the daughter of Pietro Antonio) married Michele Pedrazzini of the nearby town of Lodano on Monday, April 22, 1833, in Giumaglio. Witnesses were Giuseppe Piezzi and Giovanni Cerini.[Mar 1833]

The Pedrazzini newlyweds likely resided in Lodano.

Pietro Antonio Felice CERINI (1805-1875)

July 2013A1145. Pietro Antonio Felice Cerini was born and baptized on May 20, 1805, in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. His godparents were Pietro Antonio Canavesini, of the neighboring town of Coglio, and Maria Pozzi.[Bap 1805] Felice married Maria Maddalena Cerini, the daughter of Giuseppe Cerini, on November 27, 1832, at the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Giumaglio. No impediments were recorded, which indicates that either they were not of any known blood relationship or that such relationship was beyond that of second cousins. Witnesses to their marriage were Domenico Filippo Pozzi and Rodolfo Cerini, Maddelena's elder brother.[Mar 1832] Felice and Maddalena had at least five children, including a pair of twin daughters:

A11451. Pietro Antonio Cerini (4) Nov 1833 --  --
A11452. Giuseppe Lorenzo Cerini 9 Aug 1836 1906 (70)
A11453. Giovanni Cerini 1 Nov 1840 --  --
A11454. Marianna Cerini 15 Apr 1845 --  --
A11455. Maria Catterina Cerini 15 Apr 1845 --  --

Felice was godfather and apparently partial namesake to Marco Felice Cerini, the son of his wife's cousin, Giuseppe Gioacchino and Catterina (Giumini) Cerini[Bap 1837]; nephew Pietro Antonio Cerini[Bap 1842]; and perhaps grandniece Maria Annonziatta Cerini.[Bap 1865]

Feb 2014Son Giuseppe Lorenzo may have made as made as many as three or four trips to Victoria, Australia, before settling there permanently. His first emigration loan, under the name of "Felice di Felice" was for 1,000 francs in 1854. The following year, under the name "Giuseppe Lorenzo fu Pietro Antonio," he put up 500 francs of his own money (rather than take out a loan like most) and settled in Hepburn (1855-1856). Recorded as "Giuseppe di Pietro Antonio," he took out a third loan of 950 francs from Ponziano Rianda in 1858. Finally, according to Gentilli, he returned home in 1861 and afterward returned to Victoria, married, and settled for good in Irrewillipe, 172 kilometers southwest of Hepburn. He died there in 1906.[Cheda 341-342, Gentilli 34]

"New Cemetery"
The "new cemetery" ("cemeterio novo") was referenced between November 1868 and September 1874. It unclear as to what portion of the cemtery this refers to. Felice died after this period, but it is reasonably presumed he was buried in the same section as Maddalena.

Maria Maddalena Cerini died on December 3, 1872, in Giumaglio. She was interred two days later at the "new" cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. She was 58 years old, but reported to be 66 years old.[Dth 1872]

Felice Cerini died two years later on June 26, 1875, at his home in Giumaglio. He was interred the following day at the cemetery of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. He was 70 years old.[Dth 1875]

Giuseppe CERINI5 (1809-1864)

July 2013A1146. Giuseppe (Maria) Cerini5 was born on April 3, 1809 or 1800, probably in Giumaglio, Ticino canton, Switzerland. He married Maria (Elisabetta) Strozzi, a native of Biasca in the Ticino river valley, two valleys over to the east of the Maggia river valley. They had at least five children:

A11461. Giuseppe Cerini (Jr.) 8 Nov 1838 --  --
A11462. Maria Orsola Cerini6 15 Dec 1839 --  --
A11463. Pietro Antonio Cerini 10 Oct 1842 --  --
A11464. Giacomo Cerini 19 Feb 1846 --  --
A11465. Elisabetta Apollonia Cerini 16 Sep 1848 --  --

Giuseppe Cerini reportedly died on May 7, 1864, after the birth of grandson Pietro[Bap 1863] and before the birth of granddaughter Annunziatta.[Bap 1865] He was 54 years old.

Maria (Elisabetta) (Strozzi) Cerini was found dead on October 18, 1886, perhaps at the age of 82.[Dth 1886]
