REEVE(S) Family History
The Reeve families trace back to Orange County, New York, about 55 miles northwest of New York City near where New York meets Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Two Seybolt sisters from Otisville married two Reeve gentlement (likely close relatives) and their children migrated to Porter Township, Scioto County, Ohio.
There are Reeve relations to five of seven Seybolt siblings in Orange County, New York:
- Elisha Reeve, Jr., husband of Phoebe Seybolt (1766-?)
- daughter Mary "Polly" Reeve (1796-1870), who migrated to Porter Township, Ohio
- Elijah Reeve (1757-1817), husband of Mary Seybolt (1754-1783)
- son Gabriel Reeve (1777-1824), native of Otisville who migrated to Porter Township, Ohio
- Abigail Reeve (1761-1832), wife of Frederick Seybolt (1761-1812)
- Gabriel Reeve Mulock (1799-1846), son of William and Rebecca (Seybolt) Muloch
- Gabriel Reeve Taylor, husband of Mahala Seybolt (1801-?), a daughter of John M. Seybolt (Jr.) and niece of Mary, Frederick, Rebecca, and Phoebe
Elisha REEVE, Jr.1
1. Elisha Reeve, Jr.1 was born between 1755 and 1756. He married Phoebe Seybolt2 on January 3, 1788, in Orange County, New York. They had at least one daughter:

By 1800 it appears the Reeve family moved a few miles west to Deerpark, Orange County, and had as many as five daughters and one son.[Cen 1800] Their whereabouts afterward are unknown.

Elijah REEVE (1757-1817)
X. Elijah Reeve was born on September 2, 1757, and may have been a brother of Elisha Jr. and Abigail Reeve. He married Mary SEYBOLT, a german immigrant and sister of Elisha's wife Phoebe (Seybolt) Reeve2, on December 21, 1773, in Otisville, Orange County, New York. They had at least three children:

Mary (Seybolt) Reeve died on August 6, 1783. She was only about 29 years old.
Elijah went on to remarry to Mary Fox in 1786.
Elijah Reeve died on November 26, 1817, at the age of 60.
Abigail REEVE (1761-1832)
Y. Abigail Reeve was born on April 4, 1761, and may have been a sister of Elisha Reeve, Jr. and Elijah Reeve. She married Frederick Seybolt, a brother of Elisha's wife Phoebe (Seybolt) Reeve2, on January 17, 1786, in Goshen, Orange County, New York. They had as many as nine children:

Frederick Seybolt died on April 10, 1812, in Otisville, Orange County, New York, and is buried at Mount Hope Plains Cemetery. He was 50 years old.
Abigail (Reeve) Seybolt died 20 years later on March 26, 1832, in Otisville, and is also buried at Mount Hope Plains Cemetery. She was 70 years old.
Mary "Polly" (REEVE) CHAPMAN3 (1796-1870)
11. Mary "Polly" Reeve2 was born on December 11, 1796, in New York. She married John Chapman4 on August 13, 1815, in Scioto County, Ohio. They had 13 children:

Mary (Reeve) Chapman died at the age of 74 on December 30, 1870, in Louisa County, Iowa. She is buried at the Grandview Cemetery in Grandview.
