The Work of Enlightenment
Two hours after lunch I'm fading from a lack of blood sugar and sheer boredom,
freezing to death in an air conditioned office in late summer.
I grab a cup of hot chocolate made with a splash of coffee
and step outside to drink it, separating myself from the duties inside.
I sit down and sip slowly, taking in the outside world.
The sun shines twice as bright,
the sound of traffic intrigues me beyond measure,
the beauty of the greenery astounds me, like no other time.
Enlightened for a moment, I go back inside, rinse out my cup, and go back to work.copyright © 1992 me
