Although Durnbaugh translates the baptismal record as John Valentine,
his photocopy of the written record appears to read Hans Velten, which
also was the way he signed the oath upon his arrival in this country.
Valentine was rebaptised by his father in 1718 at Schwarzenau. Upon
his father's death, Valentine and his family, with his brother Sander and
his inlaws John and Maria Hildebrand, joined the Ephrata community.
