[1539]
Birth: [Durnbaugh, 1958]
Marriage: [Brethren Encyclopedia]
Johannes was rebaptised by his father at the age of seventeen. He
emigrated with his father, brothers, wife and two daughters in 1729.
After coming to this country, he bought land in Germantown,
Pennsylvania in 1730 from Peter Shoemaker, and owned another small
parcel jointly with Andreas Bony. He also practiced the weaving trade he
learned in Friesland.
Johannes brought his family near Waynesboro, Washington Twp.,
Cumberland (later Franklin) Co., PA about1751. Apparently one of the
reasons for his move was to help combat the inroads of the Seventh Day
Baptists. He owned a farm about two miles east and one-half mile south
of town, where he was buried on land later known as Shockey*s Mill and
then as Shank*s Mill.
