!Death: obit:George W. Kerbey, grandfather of Mrs. William Heckerman, of Bedford, Died at his home in Wilmore, Friday night. The deceased was the oldest agent at the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, both in years and service. Mr. Kerbey was born in Franklin County 1n 1815. Thomas A. Scott who became president of the Pennsylvania Railroad was a schoolmate and boyhood friend. Mr. Kerbeyus father was Robert Walker Kerbey of the Royal Navy of England, who quit the Navy and settled at Fort London in Franklin County, where he became a schoolmaster, his son and young Scott being among his pupils. Years later in 1855, when Mr. Scott was superintendent of the Pittsburgh division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, he appointed Mr. Kerbey freight and ticket agent at Wilmore, and this position Mr. Kerbey held until about one year ago. Last January, he was placed on the retired list. Mr. And Mrs. Heckerman attended the funeral services at Wilmore on Monday.Source- Bedford Gazette 4/20/1900
From the "Cambria Freeman" in Ebensburg, Pa for May 1900, "At 11:10 o'clock Friday night George W. Kerbey died at his home at Wilmore, of paralysis. He suffered very little and the end was peaceful. The deceased was born in 1815 near Fort London, Frankin County. He was appointed ticket and freight agen at Wilmore in 1855 and retained the position until the first of the present year, when the pensioning system went into effect among the Pennsylvania employees....
"Mr. Kerby was married twice. To his first wife were born the following children: Joseph Orton, the traveler and newspaper correspondent; Mrs. Ruth Fox, of Alleghany, and Mrs. Oliver Chambers of Alleghany. To his second wife, who was Miss Ruth Madden, these childre: T.S. of the Carnegie works, at Homestead, and Edgar Thompson, at Wilmore. Mrs. Kerbey's second wife survives him at the age of about 80."
