2nd Annual Winslow RR Days

The 2007 Winslow Railroad Days April 19th-22nd was the second annual railroad event for the town of Winslow, AZ. Last time, in 2006 , we setup an Ntrak layout in the same building but this year's 2007 show easily topped the year before. All thanks to Dan Lutzick of the Snowdrift Art Gallery who provided the layout space for the event. The second annual show was very good in respect to layouts and model railroad participants. However, we were slightly disappointed in the public turn out, it just wasn't as good as the first year. Regardless the club members still came together and the Ntrak layout was one of the biggest we had managed. We had planned on having the BNSF railroad in Winslow helping out with some tours and locomotive demos (which was only a possibility to begin with) but that never surfaced. For 2007 we were trying to make the show more than just layouts, so we tried including railfanning tours and adventures. Unfortunately we did not succeed in our endeavors and lack of response from the public held us back from that. We expect as the event of RR Days gets more known through AZ, this will eventually happen.

For the behind the scenes look at the Ntrak layout. The Layout was 60ft x 42ft square. We had a total of 5 Ntrak clubs attend with modules. Tucson Ntrak was the show manager then Prescott Valley Ntrak, New Mexico Rail Runners, Denver Area Ntrak (DANS) and finally SNNT (Nevada). The layout consisted of two loops connected by the red line track. This allowed both loops to be run on by a single train and it made for a huge amount train traffic to be run. Red Line was DCC on both loops, which were linked by a bridge. The Tucson loop was run all DCC with Mountain line and the Prescott Loop was run blue and yellow DC (no green).

The amount of trains we ran was incredible, the only huge problem we encountered was the Red Line digitrax command station and transformer kept cutting out, we think it was because of the amount of track and amount of trains that were running all off that one station, so by saturday we isolated the loops and ran two boosters one for each loop (sacrificing the mountain line power), which seemed to solve any issues. We got good words from all the N scale clubs and we hope to do it again next year. A Special thanks goes to Dan Lutzick, again for opening his doors for such a big event, we really appreciate the weekend Dan.

HO Clubs "Free-Mo modular style"

Several HO gauge clubs came up to the Winslow RR Days. This year they were able to occupy two buildings. One in the La Posada Depot (like in 06) and across the street in the El Gran Garage. Both Set ups were amazing, and both were very prototypical and looked and ran just like the real thing. The modular style they call Free-Mo is a standard just like N scale Ntrak. The clubs that participated this year were: Central Arizona Free-Mo, Albuquerque, Southwest Free-Mo and Salt Lake City. We have provided links to each of the building layouts. These photo galleries are done by the HO clubs involved.
