Lucy
sexuality
Last week I read a magazine article by Marina Martinelli where she
wrote: " When Lucy was on The Howard Stern Show a few
years(1997). She said she had only been with males, but she had
eaten oysters."
"Uhh.....I wonder if it makes Mr. Rob Tapert
upset. I also wonder if the LL fans knew about it"
Well, Now
I´m really confused!

Re: Lucy

yes i do. the stern interview caused controversy at the time. to
each his own i guess.
the interview was in sept97 HS:
"Seveneen". 17, with a--you never had sex with a girl?
LL:
No (laughs) [HS: Never?] No, I've eaten oysters. [Jackie guffaws]
fyi - the oysters bit is a ref to the old spartacus movie
where snails were a euphemism for men and oysters were a euphemism
for women.
the whole interview

I know that, Cerlucean.
For this reason I´m confused
My point is: how she knows it's like oysters if she hasn't
tried it?

And I hope everyone remembers that Lucy has a really wicked sense
of humor and I'm sure she was well aware of the reaction she would
get with that answer. My point being just because she said it
doesn't mean it's true (at least true in the other meaning for
eating oysters).

Re: Lucy

Celucean,
The article is about the end of the show and the
subtext.
She talks about part of the fans see G & X just
as friends and the other part see both as lovers. So, she says the
doubt is always be there, but in real life Ms. Lawless said that
quote on radio show.
Take care

Re: Lucy

uuhm 'm no expert on oisters, but i thought it worked like
this. if men talk oisters it means they are gay. what women mean
by oisters is iffy cuz oisters stand for man and then if women say
oisters are they men? or does it mean they are gay? I dunno, it
lucy's wacky humor, meant to confuse the hell out of us.
, gotta love her. this sounds like a question to be ask in
subberland.

Re: Lucy

IMO... Lucy had to have a "come back" to stupid Howard Stern's
remarks to her. She was playing with him.. and what better thing to
say .. I mean... to me she is saying.. NO I have never been with a
woman BUT.. I've always heard it's like eating oysters.. so
therefore the remark... But I have eaten oysters! ( so she has an
idea of what it is like... what I would like to know... DID SHE LIKE
THE OYSTERS??

Re: Lucy

I think that Lucy has a whacky sense of humour, and it was a good
come back line in rather grotesque interview with Howard Stern.IMO
she was subjected to a lot of sexual bombarment with comments of
what he wanted to do to her, etc. In another interview I read she said
she had no problem with the lesbian audience of Xena and if fact
praised them as being the first to make Xena their own and then
added in that whack sense of humour way that she did find Renee as
sexy as all get-out.

Re: Lucy

hmm i'm confused about the oyster thing now. my husband insisted
that oysters are a gaymen thing and that the band blue oyster cult
is called that cuz they're all gay... but he is wrong a lot, he he.
must do research.

Snippet from Howard Stern Interview with Lucy Lawless, September
12, 1997 (from KLOS - 97.1 FM), transcribed by Sporadicus who posted
the interview on the "classic" Xena Nutforum on 14 Sep 1997
20:01:05.
<snip>
HS: And it’s going well....
Let me ask you a bunch of sexual questions, alright.
LL:
(half-heartily) Alright.
HS: Here we go. Ah, what age did
you start having sex? You know intercourse? I don’t mean, like, just
getting felt up and stuff.
LL: Ah, ah, (quickly)
“seveneen”
HS: 17? [LL: (mutters) Yeah.] 17. How did she say
17? [LL: “Sweventeen”.] [RQ: “Sweventeen”] “Seveneen”? Is
that Australian?
RQ: That’s New Zealand.
HS: Oh,
“seveneen”. Is that really how you say it, ah, New Zealand?
LL: “Thirdteen, foureen, fiftheen, sixtheen---seveneen”
HS: “Seveneen”. 17, with a--you never had sex with a girl?
LL: No (laughs) [HS: Never?] No, I’ve eaten oysters. [Jackie
guffaws]
HS: No, but you’ve only had sex with guys? [LL
laughs] Right? [LL: Yeah.] Wow. Isn’t that sexy? [RQ laughs] [LL:
No--] Take off your shirt. Take off that tee-shirt. That’s
ridiculous.
LL: You know I’ve even bought-- [HS: Please,
take off your tee-shirt?]--but I’m wearing a green tee-shirt. You
know, I’m not gonna lose the other tee-shirt.
HS: No, I
don’t care. I understand that. But, please, I can’t take it. I want
you to look hot. [drum roll] See, I can see your breast a little
bit. That’s good. [Someone continuously claps] Ya know what I mean?
Nice. That’s better. [LL laughs?]
RQ: There you go, your
seeing so much more now.
HS: No, I can see her chest at
least. [RQ laughs] I, mean, I can see your chest but it’s a little
sexier. [RQ: You can see an outline of the body, is what you can
see.] Take off your pants--we can find out if you have great legs.
[RQ laughs] No, I’ve seen your Xena outfit--you look real good.
Alright. Ah, here we go. ‘Kay, there is whole lotta questions, we’ve
gotta go through ‘em all. Alright. Do you like to drink before
sex? Do you enjoy alcohol?
LL: Not as much as I used to.
HS: Really? Your not drinking that much. Okay.
LL:
No-o. No. (I’m non-toxic?)
HS: Is sex fun when your high on
pot?
LL: Ahh--no. No, no, don’t do-- I’m shhh- [HS: Your not
running for president, you can say whether you smoke pot or
not.] [Room fakely aghast] (laughs) I have to say it’s not a good
drug for me. [HS: Oh, really?] I just get bummed out and want
to go home. [HS: There you go, me too.]
RQ: Well, you two
would have been a real party together, wouldn’t you?
HS: The
only--I get very depressed. And, ah, very, ah, paranoid. [LL: Yeah.]
You too? So you’ve tried it? But, you just don’t dig it.
LL: No. Gin’s my, ah--
HS: Gin. So, the worst thing
you ever did was pot? [LL: Yeah.] You never tripped on acid or
anything? [LL: No-oh. But, I’m fascinated] You never did gin and
prozac, like that guy in France? [RQ: (repeats) Gin and prozac? ]
Isn’t that what that guy was on?
LL: That’s right.
RQ: I think it was wine and prozac.
HS: And drove
into a tunnel? But, no coke or anything like that?
LL: No.
We’ve -- [HS: Really?] --I’ve never even seen it. [HS: Interesting.]
Yeah, isn’t it.
HS: Interesting. I don’t believe it. [LL:
It’s true]
HS: Oh, a guy called in...did you ever do porno
before you were in, ah, Xena?
LL: No, I didn’t.
HS:
That is not true. Right? That is false.
RQ: He said that was
a rumor. [HS: repeats]
LL: No, there’s a lot of rumors--
Isn’t there.
HS: Okay, alright. Um, okay, you ready? [LL:
Yeah.] Okay. (clears throat) Do you have to tape your breasts in
your Xena outfit?
LL: (loudly) No, I don’t. [HS: A lot of
guys want to know that.] No, I don’t But, if they pop out, as often
happens on our show, they just get edited out of the--
HS: Is that true? Like while your doing your scenes, the
fight scenes, your breasts will pop out?
LL: Once in a blue
moon, [HS: Wow.] or somebody elses. Not, mine so much, ‘cuz I’ve got
straps, you know. [ Two *POP* sound effect] But, extras on the
show, when they get to wear those flimsy costumes--sometimes

Re: Lucy

BTW I noticed Sporadicus wrote, "(half-heartily)", and later I
heard a rumor that Rob Tapert was there at the Radio Station with LL
and later on in the interview - maybe as Howard Stern's sex
questions got more raunchy which they did - he had someone
(associated with LL biz wise, not someone from the Radio Station) go
in and say that LL had to leave right away for something and so the
interview was cut a bit short.
Also there was another
interview, printed someplace, where LL talked about how she was
offended by this fellow who kept asking her questions like he was
trying to "out" her, I think somebody other than Stern. I'd guess in
plenty of radio interviews by talk show hosts they'd want to ask
about X&G are they/aren't they, and after she'd respond to that
I can but wonder what percentage of the talk show hosts thought the
most interesting thing would then be to continue on with, "Oh, well
how about you?" After all they have a five-second attention span to
feed and as LL has said, "Sex sells, sex sells."

Re: Lucy

hmmm....was Rob there? I have a video - which includes some behind
the scenes stuff (interview in the street, green room and before and
after the show) and although I saw some publicist guy I didn't see
any hint of Rob. I seem to remember my video shows her getting out
of the car with her publicist.
I'll have to go root through
my tapes and find that one... TL

Hi.
Rob was in LA.
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/8715/hstern1.html
HS:
Right. Your not doing Grease! for the money. [LL: But, it's great
fun.] Um-hm. Where's your boyfriend this morning? How come he's
traveling around--
LL: He's in L.A. He’s coming over. [HS:
Is he? Yeah, I would be with you, if, ah you were mine. You wouldn’t
be out of my sight.] Would you? [HS: Oh, yeah.] (bluntly) Okay. I'm
up for it. (surpressed yawn?) Right here. Right now.
Take
care,
