Progression of ROC (1995) to now (2001)
I just finished watching The Rockferd Files "Blessing in Disguise" and was again amazed at how young ROC was in 1995. She looked twelve! Yet, you could see the stirrings of a consumate actress in that 'self absorbed' part..not many people can pull off conciete with a golden heart much less comedy in a serious episode and not be taken for one diminsional. ROC, however, pulled this off. The character of Laura Sue Dean should have been grating, irritating and flighty. ROC gave some depth to her. It is very satisfying to watch the transformation of her talent and crafting of her body for the part of Gabrielle. We have watched the Bard progress from 'irritating blonde' to a strong yet heart on her sleeve kick butt warrior who deserves a side kick of her own..(How can I put in my resume' for the job?) She definitely does not get the acting kudos she deserves. How do you feel about her transformation through the years?

She has that atmosphere about her of youthfulness, you know? But she made a beliver out of me when she played a detective character in the FBI Stories. She studies her craft and learns and grows as she goes.

I,m probably in the minority here when I say I miss her long hair.I thought the haircut was a change and a good move for the story etc.But honestly I like Gabrielle/Renee wit longer hair.Cause her hair's so pretty anyway.I liked her hair like in A family affair. I think she looks younger with longer hair too.

Actually, I like her with longer hair too! To me, it makes her look even prettier (and as you said, her hair is so pretty). By the way, the wig in Return of the Valkyries looked a LOT like her real hair, much better than Hope's wig in Motherhood. But I am growing content with her current hair length. In season five it was too short, I'll admit, and I wasn't a big fan of the way it was in the latter part India arc of season 4. But in the current season, where it's a bit longer, I'm starting to think it's practically perfect for her! Makes her a distinguished beauty...

Gotta love that new velvety costume as well...

Has anyone noticed the interesting way that Renee spells her name? The accent aigu is on the second e, and not the first, as it would be in French. Unique, quite unique.

How cool that you noticed JAMES! Actually,I have a great autographed photo with Lucy and Renee's signatures..Lucys handwriting is very interesting..sort of hurried...done in a blaze of glory if you will!..Renee's is very bold, easy to read,..wonder the significance of both???Anyone up on that??

thats my story and I,m sticking to it!!

Hmmm...that's interesting, talldarkndeadly. A book on graphology might shed some light on the matter.

There are a few basic things I recall. Handwriting that slants upward might indicate an elevated mood, just as a downward slant might indicate depression or a lack of excitement. If either one of the first or last names are written significantly smaller than the other, this could indicate an embarrassment, reluctance, or inherent rejection of that name. You mentioned that Lucy's handwriting seemed hurried and "in the blaze of glory", whereas Renee's was very bold and easy to read. This may well reflect basic differences in their personalities. Lucy, I've heard, is very spontaneous and witty, very spur-of-the-moment, if you will. Renee's writing might be an indication of patience, generosity, and that she is down-to-earth.

Any other thoughts are certainly welcome, as I'm surely no expert on the matter...

 The spelling of Reneé
actually, I've seen it spelled this way for another woman (some other actress, BTW. Maybe a copycat? ;) ). I've always wondered about the origins of the ways her name is spelled. Did her parents just don't know how to spell right? Or did they deliberately misspell it in order to make it special?

You should know that for anyone with French as their native language, the name "Reneé" will simply look wrong, no matter whether the spelling is intended or not.

Marcus.
(who is reminded of an episode in Terry Pratchett's "Carpe Jugulum", where queen Magrat's daughter gets named -- due to inconsideration by the involved priest -- Esmeralda Margaret Note Spelling... :lol )

 Re: The Progression of ROC
I kinda miss her long hair, but I like her with short hair too. Heck, she could shave her head bald and still be a knock out!
I love how she has grown and matured; or at least Gabrielle has. I think Renee herself was more worldly than Gabrielle, even in the beginning. She said in early interviews that she thought Gabrielle was too naive and innocent, and that she wanted her to be stronger. The writers and producers told her that Gabrielle *would* mature, but not as fast as she wished. She said later that they were right, that if she had had her way, Gabrielle would've changed overnight for no reason, which would've confused the audience.
It's been fascinating watch Gabrielle grow up before our eyes. I just hope she never loses that sense of wonder which endeared her to us all, and and that she never loses the need to stop and smell the flowers. That would be sad, indeed. Considering what she's been through, it's surprising she hasn't lost these qualities.
She is older now, a bit wiser to the ways of the world, and yet she has not lost her compassion or her ability to love. That makes her special.

 progression
It was hard watching Gab's change each time I goit mad but then it paseed and I loved each look and edition better than the last. I guess I looked beyond the costume and found that it was real charm and humor that I was responding to postively. She got better and better as Gab.
