This is a new discussion list for fans to talk about Ty. It was begun due to the closing of the Ty Talk list where some wonderful friendships were born. I hated to see the great caring and sharing of that list end, so decided to create a new group myself. Ty's fans are awesome, and I hope we can continue the fun and friendships with The Ty Touch group.

Welcome to my small tribute to a giant performer, Ty Herndon! Ty captured my attention when he appeared on "Star Search" during its first season in 1983-84. Ty appeared on 11 episodes, and made it to the finals where he lost to the phenomenal Sam Harris. It was a landmark year for "Star Search" with country favorite Sawyer Brown also winning the group contest.

Back when "Star Search" aired, I was totally enamored by the tall and handsome Ty. His voice was strong and beautiful, in contrast to Sam's soulful jazz sounds. Ty could make the gals swoon with his croons! During the next two years, there were frequent updates about the successful class of '84 on "Star Search", but after that, I lost track of Ty, but I never forgot!

Fast forward to 1998, and while watching "Entertainment Tonight" I learned of a Ty Herndon, country singer, having some problems. I thought "how many Ty Herndon's are there", but I didn't recognize him, and when I searched the internet, I couldn't find any reference to that Ty being "my" Ty. I let it go and didn't give it another thought .... well not much anyway.

Fast forward some more to 2001. While cataloguing some video tapes, I was once again mesmerized by watching the handful of Ty appearances on "Star Search" that I have. Since I was signed on to the web, I did another search, and then I found it ... the official Ty Herndon website! I stared hard at the picture and went to the "profile" page and WHAM! .... there it was .... the mention of "Star Search". I was completely flabbergasted! Country music's Ty was my Ty!

I went bananas and searched for more, and came across another wonderful website called Ty Central where I learned even more, and found a link to a terrific and informative discussion group called Ty Talk! These ladies on Ty Talk are awesome! I wrote an introduction letter that sounded like gibberish, ranting and raving about how marvelous "my" Ty was on "Star Search" and how it took me 18 years to find him again. Geez, he's only been a country music success for 6 years!

I researched Ty's music. Oh my goodness! It was HIM who sang that beautiful ballad "What Mattered Most" that I had heard before, and it was HIM who sang another classic, "Hands of a Working Man". Okie -- I've heard his music. I simply didn't realize it was "my" Ty! After all, he went from the pop standards on "Star Search" to country twang, so that is my rationale!

Ty was born on May 2, 1962 in Meridian, Mississippi. The family moved to Alabama and he was raised in Decatur ("Star Search" always credited Ty as being from Alabama). He moved to Nashville and became a member of the Tennessee River Boys, a country group that later became famous as Diamond Rio. After his success on "Star Search", Ty moved to Dallas, Texas. He appeared on the short-lived "Your Write the Songs" spin off of "Star Search" and started touring, including doing an 8 week tour in Europe for service men. Several years later, Ty finally acquired a record contract and his first cd, "What Mattered Most" was issued.

In 1995, Ty was honored as the "Best New Artist" Award by the Country Radio Music Association. "What Mattered Most" had soared to the Number One spot, earning Ty several other awards and nominations and national fame. The next cd was "Living in a Moment" which also went to Number One. Success continued with the "Big Hopes" cd, and Ty's last cd was "Steam", which has a bit of a hipper feel to it. In October 2001, Ty's newest song is scheduled to be released, with a cd to follow in January 2002.

Ty is married to Renee, a nurse, and has homes in Dallas, Los Angeles and Nashville. His shows are big successes, and his fans are totally thrilled. I've heard story after story about Ty spending time with his fans at meet and greets and other events. No one has a negative thing to say. Even when he is tired, the gals have reported that he is always smiling, willing to sign an autograph and pose for that picture. Ty's fan base is very loyal. They love his twinkle, his smile, and, yes, some even love the leather pants he sometimes wear, and I've heard that one just hasn't lived until they've witnessed Ty performing "You Can Leave Your Hat On"!

Listen to a montage of all the songs from Ty's first four cds. Be forewarned, this is a BIG sound wav file, over 5 minutes long and approximately 6774kb. Depending upon your system, it could take a long time to load but hopefully, visitors will think it's worth the wait!
