Technology of EOC ...
Cars come standard with the 360* wheels though most people prefer the old fashioned "tired" look. There are special covering that can be placed over the 360 wheel casing to make it look like it still has rubber tires and rims. The latest fashions are still chrome - surprise surprise...
Airplanes:
There are scant few airplanes with the advent of crosscountry flying being so fast now. Few people will bother with airplanes except recreationally. And you must have a strict license for this. After finding out that the continued flight of planes in the sky was actually affecting the ozone as much - if not MORE than the carbon monoxide put out by cars, the EPA struck. HARD!
The newest "airplane" installment is a spaceplane. They are used only to go from one country to another and therer are generally only 2-4 stations on a continent depending on the size. They utilize a space line that takes the plane out of orbit, and then, using the pull of gravity to propell it, moves it on it's new location.
In future, these will be used much more - once the new Space Colony is fully operational. It is only a matter of time...and then what fun we will have indeed!
COMPUTERS
AI:
Artificial intellegence...yes it is here, no we are NOT having an I-Robot or Terminator episode. Long ago, and with such LOVELY movies and novels as the aformentioned, scientists decided, "no we are not going that way" and "No we will not be stupid enough to put a microchip in everything"....
....
Along the way, someone forgot those two little warnings though. Microchips ARE starting to infiltrate everything as seen with computer driven cars. It's not so bad that people area forgetting how to do the basics, but some of the more menial tasks are being left to trained drones. The drones are NOT by any way shape or form human looking. They are only more advanced computers than the ones in factories of the late 20th century. They are connected indefinitely into the mainframe of the building and can not "walk off" because they have no legs. Their AI are specifically kept simple so as not to insight evolution.
But....there was this one scientist...who kinda let his imagination go wild and...
But that's a tale for another day.
As for personal computers and such. Now, that is a different subject all together. As stated above, some scientists forgot one of the cardinal rules and have since been developing AI software “companions” for home use. Most people aren’t stupid enough to hook these AIs into the entire mainframe of their household, or give them access to the Net, but even if these digital companions WERE to get free, there are safeguards. HackerViruses designates specifically to seek out and destroy errant AIs that have “escaped” through the net. There are many of these HackerVirus and they DO evolve with every encounter with foreign AIs. They are supposed to be scrapped after every 100th use to prevent revolt.
Generally, there have been no problems with Personal AIs, and there are no foreseeable threats as of this date.
Cybernetics
We have cybernetic implants, as well as cybernetic whole bodies. The range is pretty much the gamut of the human imagination. There are no AIs in these programs. At all. Nanobots designed to work efficiently and EXACTLY like human cells are also available for use. No, there will be no great nono-bot revolts anytime soon.
“Blank Slate” bodies - Nanotechonology meets cloning in a sense. This process is still in the experimental phases but there have been a few successes. By taking known DNA of the person to be mapped, or a close relative of the person desirning the mapping, specially designed nanobots are injected into a protein based body - well it’s really just a slab of meat at that point! The nanobots take the DNA and whatever programmed traits that were added to the core material and alter the proteins to match. Like a cancer, they force the DNA to alter, change and grow to the designes specified. Once the process is complete, 98% of the nanobots deactivate and are flushed from the system. The remaining 2%...well 1% stays active as a form of tracking device for the new body until it is established as stable. The other 1% mysteriously disappears. It is not known what happens to the remains. It is assumed that they are simply absorbed into the body somehow.
