GENERAL UBA HELP

ULTIMATE BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION -- Version 5.02

System Requirements:

Operating System: Windows 95 or newer version of Windows.

Resolution: 800 x 600 or higher resolution. 800 x 600 required for Full Screen Mode.

Using the What's This Help:

On each screen in the UBA program, you will find an orange basketball with a "?" on it. Click on this orange basketball with the mouse pointer. The mouse pointer will change into a "?". Next, scroll the "?" with the mouse until it is above the item you want help for and click the mouse again. A popup screen with information about that object will appear.

Installing the UBA software:

The UBA software consists of two components -- The UBA program directory, and UBA League Data directories. You can run the UBA program wihtout a UBA League Data directory, but you will be limited in what you can accomplish.

UBA Program Installation: Download uba50.exe from the UBA website. You can either open this file directly from your browser, or save it to a temporary directory and run it later with Explorer. Either way, running uba50.exe will automatically start the installation program. A UBA icon will be placed onto your desktop that you can use to run the UBA program.

UBA League Data installation. If you have existing UBA Seasons, then all you need to do is select the appropriate League Data Directory when running the UBA Program.

To install the 1993-94 UBA season, download 9394.exe from the UBA website. You can either open this file directly from your browser, or save it to a temporary directory and run it later with Explorer. Either way, running 9394.exe will start the installation process. You'll then need to select the League Data Directory that you chose during the installation process when you run the UBA program.

Installing additional seasons is similar to installing the 9394.exe season, except you will get the installation file via e-mail instead of from the UBA website.

Registering the UBA software:

The un-registered version of the UBA 5.0 is completely functional, with the exception of only being able to store three games worth of stats per team. When attempting to play a game with a team that has already played three games, you'll be requested to register the software. To do so, write down (or cut & paste) your Product ID# from the Registration screen, and enter that number in the appropriate place in the UBA Registration order form. You can order a registration code from www.ubabasketball.com. Once you have completed the registration order, you'll receive a registration code via e-mail, which will unlock the UBA program.

Distributing the UBA software:

UBA Program Files:

You may freely distribute the UBA program files. However, any program files that you distribute will be unregistered, and will require registration for full activation. A UBA registration code is good only on one machine.

UBA Season Stats:

The 1993-94 UBA Season Stats are freely distributable. You may not distribute any other UBA Season Stats you purchase. Any stats that you create on your own for the UBA software are considered your original work and freely distributable -- provided they are entirely your own work.

Technical Support:

Please contact uba@ubabasketball.com for any problems you have with the software. In addition, suggestions and comments are encouraged. Future improvements of the UBA software are dependent on input from its users.

WhatsThis type help is provided throught the program. Just click on the basketball with the question mark on it, then click on the item in question, and popup help is provided.

For further help on how to use the UBA software, refer to ubause.txt.

For help with the new UBA lineup format, refer to ubaline.txt.

Compatibility with Version 4.2:

Version 5.0 is completely compatible with Version 4.2 with some minor exceptions. To use a season previously run under 4.2 with the 5.0 software, simply run the UBA Version 5.0 program normally and select the UBA League Data path that the season in question is located in. (In Version 4.2, the program files were also located in the League data directories -- this will have no effect on UBA Version 5.0).

The default lineup files will not be compatible with Version 5.0 -- refer to ubause.txt for suggestions on how to make new default lineups.

Also, it may be necessary to edit some team colors from Version 4.2 leagues so that they will appear in Version 5.0.
