HOW TO USE THE UBA SOFTWARE

This file contains suggestions on how the use the UBA software in a variety of ways.

Default Lineups:

Regardless of how you end up using the UBA software, you'll doubtless want to create default lineups for all teams, as players will not be coached realistically without default lineups.

To create default lineups for all teams, go to the Edit Teams screen, and select the Automatic Default Lineup Generator. Select all teams, and use Computer Rating as the criteria. The other criteria are useful, but Computer Rating is the best starting point.

Next, you'll need to make sure that Default Lineups are selected in the Edit League screen with the Standard or Default Lineups toggle.

The best way to edit your own default lineup, is to create one with the Automatic Default Lineup Generator and edit it from the Edit Team screen.

There are three main uses for the UBA software:

1. Following your favorite team through a re-creation of the actual season. 2. Coaching a team in a UBA simulation league. 3. Being the Commissioner of a UBA simulation basketbal league.

1. Following your favorite team through a re-creation of the actual season:

Think you can coach your team better than the actual coach? This will give you the opportunity.

Go to the Edit League screen, and hit the Edit Team Names/Colors/Display Rates button. Under Disp. for each team, toggle it to 6, with the exception of the team you plan to follow. For the team you are following, select a lower setting.

Now you can Auto-Play 50 games at a time. The program will rapidly play all games until it comes to a game featuring your team, in which case it will slow down to the speed you selected. Try adjusting your lineups after each stretch of games and see if your team can get in top shape by the end of the season.

2. Coaching a team in a UBA simulation league.

If you are a coach in a UBA simulation league, you can have the Commissioner of your league e-mail your default lineup file and edit it with the Generic Default Lineup Editor Utility.

If you own a copy of the stats that the UBA simulation league is using, you can do much more. You can create custom schedules featuring only your team vs. the rest of the league, or vs. a specific team to fine tune your lineup to its fullest potential.

3. Being the Commissioner of a UBA simulation basketball league.

This is what the UBA software was really designed to do. Version 5.0 is designed to be flexible, powerful, yet easy to run and post the results of a simulation league.

The Daily Commissioner's File Utility will automatically convert all the UBA reports into .htm files so you can post them to your website. It also creates a daily game summary that you can send via e-mail for a daily report on your league.

If everyone in your league has a copy of the UBA software, you can e-mail their existing lineups and have them edit their lineups with the Generic Default Lineup Editor, so you will not have to go through the trouble of inputting the lineups yourself. Or, if necessary, you can print the existing default lineups to a file and have the coaches edit those for you to input.

Fast Autoplay vs. Slow Autoplay:

If you are running a league where each coach will use and edit the same lineup for each game, then Fast Auto-Play is the way to go. However, if coaches will pick from varoius lineups from game to game, or perhaps give you some last minute game-time changes, you may want to use Slow Auto-Play.

With Slow Auto-Play you need to pre-input the lineups for each game before you actually run the gams. For example, if there are 8 games on the schedule for a particular day, you would first input the lineups for all 8 games before playing the games. This gives you maximum flexibility for the selection and/or editing of lineups before the game.

In Fast Auto-Play, the Readied Default lineup is always used, thus there is no need to select lineups before each game.
