I would like to thank those who brought their tractors, engines, and other displays to the Fair and explaining to the fair goers how they ran and what they did. I am sorry to say I did not make it to the annual dinner but I heard that there was a lot of good food. Thanks to all who participated.
The Union County Heritage Festival is this Saturday October 1st. You are invited to come and if you have tractors and engines you are welcome to bring them or just enjoy the festival.
The Fall Homecoming at the Museum of Appalachia starts Thursday October 6th. Elaine and Jane have asked that we do not bring our displays before Monday October 3rd because they are having weddings that weekend. I will pick up the name badges this week and will have them at the club meeting on Tuesday and after that David Walker will have the remaining badges on Wednesday at the Museum. Please set up your displays close to where you did last year and you should be fine.

At the May 16th 2011 Board of Directors Meeting, Jr. Hale turned in his resignation as Treasurer. The board accepted this resignation. The Board of Directors appointed Kathy Day as interim treasurer. The Club will discuss this matter at the upcoming meeting and according to the club By Laws we can elect a treasurer at the July meeting.
If all goes well, the club is planning on having wheat threshing at our June Show. The Smoky Mountain Chapter of Antique Trucks has been invited to our tractor show.
It is time to give your Show Ad information to George Hackler if you have not already done so. It is only three weeks until show time so let's get revved up for it.

Hello everyone. Well, we have the Fair behind us and I think the Club put on a good show for the fairgoers. Almost all of the engines and several tractors were running just about every day. Nancy Larson drew a lot of spectators to her display with young people being interested in vintage knitting. Let's not forget the cooks, as always they do a great job at preparing a good meal and this year was no different. Thank you ladies.
I have spoken with Jane at the Museum. David Walker and I will be picking up the name badges for those who are attending the Fall Homecoming this year. We will have these badges at the next club meeting for those who are there. If you do not come to the next meeting, David will have the passes at the Museum on Wednesday before the Homecoming starts on Thursday, October 7th. David and I are meeting with Jane this week as they are changing where we will be parking our tractors and engines, so if you go before Wednesday you might want to call David or me and we should be able to tell you where to put your display.
The Union County Heritage Festival is this Saturday, October 2nd starting at 10:00 AM at Wilson Park. If you have tractors or engines you are invited to bring them. There will be a good number of activities and events going on at the Park and at the Museum.
Election of club officers is just a month away so you need to be thinking about that for the next few weeks. A nominating committee will be chosen at the next club meeting. I will see you then.

Hello everyone, it's Fair time. That’s right the Tennessee Valley Fair will be in town starting next Friday and will run for 10 days. They are expecting a good show from us and let us not disappoint them, so bring your tractors and engines and put on a good show for the fair goers.
Our meeting this month will be at the Fairgrounds, on the hill at the tractor and engine display area and that will be Tuesday, September 6th at 7:00 PM. We will get our Parking and Gate passes at this time. The Club will be having our supper on September18th at 6:00 PM with the Club furnishing the drinks, plates, cups, spoons and forks. The food will be left up to the women and they always do a good job.
I talked to Jane at the Museum of Appalachia this week. If you attended the Homecoming last year you will be getting an invitation from the Museum to come back this year. If you are a new comer, or did not attend last year and would like to this year, I will have some applications at this club meeting at the fairgrounds. You would need to fill it out and send it along with photo of your exhibit to the Museum of Appalachia and they make the decision. The Homecoming will only be four days this year starting on Thursday, October 7th and this will be student day also. Jane asked if David Walker and I would be in charge of the name tags for us at the Homecoming and I agreed that we would.

There were a good number of tractors and engines on display and everyone seemed to have a good time. I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in getting the show site ready, for the people who worked in the wheat field getting it cut and shocked and loaded. Thank you, Alco for growing and donating the wheat. Thank you, Bruce and Cecil for bringing your baler to bale the straw. Thanks to Harold Wise for taking care of the gate, and thanks to the Alexander's for camping for a couple of nights at the show site. Thanks to everyone that worked on the barrel train. They looked good.
Our hats off to the cook, (Carolyn) for the good food and cold drinks on a hot day. Please remember the sick and shut in and the Men and Women in Uniform in your prayers. We hope to see you at the next meeting.

I talked to Peggy at the Museum this week and everything is good with John Rice as far as the June Show goes. At the last Board Meeting Jr. Hale and Ronnie Hatcher were discussing their ideas about making the train for the kiddie rides at the June show, and they just might need some extra help, so if your phone rings please answer it and help them if you can.
SMAETA Club and anyone who has antique tractors have been invited to the American Truck Historical Society / Smoky Mountain Chapter 3rd Annual Truck Show. It will be Friday and Saturday, April 9th & 10th at Chilhowie Park Midway Fair Grounds. All proceeds benefit the Michael Dunn Center in Kingston Tennessee, so if you can, please come out.
I will not be able to attend this month's meeting as I will be helping Carolyn carve another notch in life's ladder and celebrating her birthday. I hope to see you next month.

Hello everyone. This time last month Thanksgiving had come and gone, and now Christmas has come and gone.
Speaking of Christmas, the Christmas party was good and the food was great. Everyone had a great time. We put together one hundred bags for Mobile Meals to distribute to the sick and shut-in. As I was reading last Saturday's paper, there was an article about Mobile Meals making their deliveries on Christmas Day and in the picture was one of the bags that we had prepared. Mobile Meals was very grateful for our donation and a thank you is forthcoming.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and now Happy New Year to everyone. 2010 is here and it's time to start making plans for this year's activities.
Please keep in prayers the families where death had come into their homes this year as the most recent was Christine McGinnis who passed away on December 3, 2009.
Hope to see you at the next club meeting.

Hello everyone, we are just over a month into the fall season and if you have been taking in any of the fall festivities then just look out your window and look what a beautiful picture nature has painted for us. The Fall Homecoming has come and gone; the weather didn't cooperate real well as it rained just about every night but was pretty fair on Thursday and Friday. There were a lot of engines and a few tractors working for the spectators as they came through the show site.
A big thank you to David Walker and Bruce Moneymaker and anyone else who might have helped at their shop in working on the McCormick tractor and thanks to Elmer Amann for helping out with the parts. The tractor was brought back to the Museum where some more work was done and then started up and ran, and it ran very well I might add. The tractor is now setting in the barn for display.
I would just like to remind everyone that our next meeting is also election of Club Officers. Please come out and take part this election because it is your Club.

I hope you are enjoying these fall like temperatures and weather. Everyone who attended the Tennessee Valley Fair seemed to have a good time. Our thanks to the Club members who came out and ran tractors, engines, and displays. They did a great job. The ladies and gentlemen who cooked and brought food to the supper did a wonderful job. It was great and there was plenty for everyone, and was a good time to fellowship together.
It is less than a week until the Fall Homecoming at the Museum of Appalachia Oct 7th thru the 11th. If you have sent in applications to attend and have not received your passes, David Walker and I are getting a list of names to help get the passes to you. We will try to have them at the next club meeting. Set up day is Tuesday, October 6th. I have not heard where this month's club meeting will be held, but I am sure that George will have it in his article.
Don't forget Union County Heritage Day on October 17th at Wilson Park next to Union County High School. Your tractors, engines, and antique displays are welcomed.
I have not heard anything about parking passes for the next meeting, but be on the lookout if someone is standing out there to give them out. Remember the Sick and Shut-in in your prayers. See you at the next meeting.
Hello everyone, well it is just over two weeks until the Tennessee Valley Fair opens. From the report at the Board Meeting it appears that there are going to be a good number of tractors and engines on display. For the safety of everyone please remember your Chock Blocks to keep the tractors and trailers carrying engines stabilized from moving or rolling. We want to make this a fun time for everyone.
Some good news, a phone call last week from John Rice Irwin at the Museum, He has given the Club permission to have the June show there next year in the same place. Now we can start making plans early on. Our next Club Meeting will be September 8th on the hill at the Fair grounds at 7:00 PM. If you have not filled out your forms you need to do that so you can get your passes and tickets. Let us all do our best to put on a good show for the Fair goers as we are getting paid to do so.
I hope you have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend, see you at the Fairgrounds for the next meeting.

Since our June show and just one day after our last club meeting, the tractor clubs and the Karns Community has lost a great icon. On the morning of July 8th Duane Larson passed away leaving behind family and friends who will miss him greatly. Continue to keep Nancy and the family in your prayers. Also, remember Jack Abbott in your prayers.
I went to Alco's family wheat threshing a couple of weeks ago and behold what a sight, some 430 John Deeres tugging away at the threshing machine, and doing a good job too.
Attached to the News Letter this month and next month you will find applications for the Tennessee Valley Fair. Please fill them out and send them back in as soon as you can so that passes can be obtained. I also still have applications for the fall Homecoming at the Museum if you would like to bring an exhibit.
Our attendance has been good at the previous meetings and I would hope it will stay like that. I don't know if we will have parking passes or not for our next meeting, but if someone is standing out there, stop and get one. See you at the meeting.

Well, summer is here and one word set the stage for tractor show last weekend--- HOT. Some more news about the show, I think everyone had a great time. There were a good number of tractors and engines that came out. I would like to thank each and everyone who took a part and worked to put this show on and for all that was contributed. It was anticipated that the club would work on an old concrete mixer and an old tractor at the show site. That work did take place with getting the early 1900s Jaeger hit-n-miss engine running, thanks to all of the Guys with their expertise knowledge and help in getting it running. The tractor, a McCormick/Deering, model not known, was worked on with engine problems and will take considerable work to get running, but with the help that has been promised that can be accomplished, too.
We should have more information on final numbers and figures at the next meeting. Last but not least, I want to say thanks to the cook for Friday and Saturday. The food was good and the prices were cheap.
Hope to see you at the next meeting, and don't forget your parking passes.

Hello everyone. The Swap Meet had a fairly good turnout a couple weeks ago with some buying, some selling, yet it was an enjoyable day to get to talk and visit with everybody. On behalf of the club I would like to thank Wanda Byerley for taking part in the Swap Meet and selling an assortment of items and donating the money to the Children's Home. Thank you, Wanda.
If you get this letter before Saturday morning, don't forget the Relay for Life at Anderson County Vocational School. We are supposed to be there and set up by 9:00AM.
The sale of ads for a show book has now been wrapped up and has been taken to the printer and should be back in about a week. The club has been successful in selling these ads and should be proud of it. It is just four weeks until our annual June Show. If you have any ideas of anything to do to make the show more interesting bring them to the next club meeting.
Don't forget our Men and Women and the people who are sick and those who are in need in our prayers. See you at the next club meeting, and don't forget your parking passes.

Hello everyone, well the weather has warmed up, the gardens are getting planted and the farmers are getting busier.
At our last club meeting from all indications the ad sales are looking pretty good and I am sure there will be more to come. I have talked to Carolyn and she has agreed to cook hamburgers and hotdogs and have drinks and snacks for sale at the June Show.
Things to remember: the swap meet at the Union County High School on May 16th at 8am, and the Relay For Life at Anderson County High School on May 30th at 8am. I would like to see a good turnout at the Relay For Life because it is for a good cause. Let's help them out.
Remember our sick and elderly and those who are in need in our prayers.
Don't forget your parking passes at the next meeting, see you then.

Hello everyone. Springtime is here and time to get busy. A time and place has been set for our June show. It is June 26/27/28 at the Museum of Appalachia, across the highway from the Museum. The club also voted to sell ads for a show book. If you needs forms to sell ads, contact Jim Miller, Jr. Hale, or Carl Chesney and we will see that you get them.
Some things closer to be thinking about is the SMAETA Swap Meet at the Union County High School on May 16th, and the Relay For Life at the Anderson County High School that we committed to Randy Sawyer last year to do. I do not know yet how many tractors or engines will need to be brought to this event, but we will find out and let you know.
Fliers have been made for the tractor show and I will try to remember to bring them to the next meeting. If someone has fliers for the Swap Meet stored in their computer, please bring them to the next meeting and we can start getting them out.
Congratulations to Carolyn Chesney as she has volunteered to be our Historian, I believe she will do a great job.
Please keep our friends that are not feeling well in our prayers and I just want them to know that I miss them when they are not at the meetings.

Hello, everyone! I have some encouraging news about our annual tractor show. Some of the Board Members and I met with Peggy at the museum to discuss the matter on January 08, 2009. Peggy contacted me a few days later and has agreed to let the club have the show on the grounds of the Museum of Appalachia on June 26, 27, 28, 2009. The Board agreed to bring it before the club at our next meeting. In the same conversation, Peggy told me she would have the forms printed out for exhibits at the 2009 Fall Homecoming. I will pick them up and distribute them when I get them. The Board has agreed and will be presenting to the club the idea of selling a book of ads.
I hope everyone who can, will attend the next club meeting so we can discuss these and other topics. If you did not get a parking pass when they were handed out at the last meeting, don't forget to get one this time.

Hello, everyone and I hope you and your families had a very Merry Christmas. I would like to welcome our new club officers as they will start at the next meeting. I wish them well in their duties and I know they will give it their best. There is quite a lot of work to be done to get ready for our summer show. We need ideas of things to do at the show to help draw attendance and make it more enjoyable. So your input is very welcome.
I have enjoyed serving as Chairman of the Board this year as my term has expired and the Board Members will elect a new person for this job at the next Board meeting. I hope to see everyone at the next club meeting, which will be on January 06, 2009. Don't forget your parking pass at the next meeting.
Carolyn and I wish everyone a very HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR.

I would like to start off by saying thank you for the good turn out at our show a couple of weeks ago. Also, thanks for all the hard work that was put into it. As far as I know, everything went well and everybody had a great time. If you had friends who had displays there, please let them know how much we appreciate them for participating. At this time, I do not know how many displays were at the UT AG Day but I do hope that it was a success and that they are pleased with us.
Our election of officers is at the next club meeting and it would be great to have a good turnout for this meeting. I would also like to have the candidates tell us about themselves and what they could do for our club to make it a better club. There are also a few other topics to discuss at the meeting. Our next meeting will be on National Election Day so please don't forget to VOTE!
Don't forget your parking pass as some one will be there handing them out. Hope to see you at the meeting.

First, I would like to say thanks to everyone for a good turnout at last month’s meeting. We would like to keep up the good number in attendance, and we hope to see our club membership grow. We have been having good meetings with good, informative, and interesting programs.
We believe we have final details worked out with Museum of Appalachia for the June show and these will be discussed at the next club meeting on April 3. We hope everyone that can attend will be present for this meeting. We encourage everyone’s input about shows and club meetings.
We are always looking for programs for our meetings. If you can present a program, or know someone who might present a program, please contact Jim Miller, Ron Treece or any board member.
One other note – all board members along with three officers were present for last month’s board meeting. Thanks to all who attended.
I hope to see you at the meeting Tuesday evening, April 3.
Carl
