Home Made Prop list

The following were retained from 2006:

Hanging Ghost, Groundbreaker Coffin, Zombie head/Hands, Entrance/Fence, Cat, Rat

New for 2007

Groundbreaker Skeleton, Witch, Groundbreaker Zombie, Scarecrow, Grim Reaper

Groundbreaker Skeleton

The skull and arms were from blucky. The jaw was cut away from the skull and repositioned open mouth. The teeth were cut away and new teeth added. The eyes were cut away and sockets were added. Extra detail added around the eyes and nose. The skull was then coated with PVA (White) glue and covered in layers of tissue paper. The arms were given more detail by cutting out the excess plastic and given a more realistic shape. Again coated with PVA glue and covered in layers of tissue. The hands were made as per my how to on skeleton hands.

The rib cage was a paper mache cast of a blucky rib cage. a length of PVC pipe was added to the collar bone for the arms to be secured to.  The spine was made from 2" round wood and the rib cage was secured to the wood. The head secured to the wood and the arms secured to the rib cage. The Skeleton was then painted in Ivory then coated with wood stain to age.

The Witch

This so far has to be the fav prop I have made. I used a polystyrene wig head for the basic shape. covered it in aluminum foil the added extra details building it up with rolled up/screwed up foil and securing in place with tape. Once I was happy the the detail, I then covered the entire head in layers of paper mache. once this was dry, I made a cut at the back of the head and carefully removed the "cast" from the head. A few more layers of paper mache, to give extra strength and cover the cut at the back. The eye area was cut away and ping pong ball eyes glued in place, then the head painted.

The hands made by using wire forms for the shape of the hands, beads for knuckles & joints and built up with masking tape and paper mache

The body is basically a PVC frame with padding for the chest, shoulders and arms. The dress was a $4 find in Goodwill .. and I also got the witch hat there (one with the hair attached)

Groundbreaker Zombie

This was made using the method by Hector Turner (this is the link to his how to and most of the credit goes out to him.. http://www.hectorturner.com/halloween/zombie.html)

I made my zombie head from scratch, using the same method as the witch head, and used a different method for the body/frame. But I wanted the outcome to look like the one from the how to.

The Scarecrow

I am sure I had seen something like this on another site but have not found it since. Basically, the frame is made from chicken wire. The supporting frame is PVC pipe in a t shape. Padding added for the arms. Two hands were made using my how to method. A plastic rib cage bought at a thrift store was secured in place on the chest then the whole body wrapped in burlap, Then secured with rope as if the body was wrapped and bound. The skull was another thrift store find and re-painted. A hood of burlap was then placed over the skull. Then the body was secured to a large wooden T.

Not sure if this is how I wanted it to be, may work on it some more...

The Grim Reaper

Probably the easiest prop I made. Just a basic T frame ... the arm frames jointed, The hands are rubber skeleton gloves. The Mask was $1 at Goodwill. An Extra Large (Tall) Grim Reaper robe from Shopko ( was 50% off). A wig head for the head, covered with a piece of black fabric and then the mask placed over it. The Pentogram was made from a plastic tub lid, star made from cardboard coated with spray adhesive then covered with aluminum foil. Black paint rubbed over the surface for detail/highlights. complemented with a plastic chain. The sickle is a length of PVC pipe covered in duct tape. The blade made from cardboard and painted silver. A plastic skull secured to the top of the sickle for added detail.
