The first maple mandolin (discounting Stan’s very first effort), after he’d made five or six instruments out of Brazilian or East Indian Rosewood. Built in the late 1970’s. The wood came from a billet cut for a cello, and was also used for the instrument in the second maple mandolin. Stan bought it from a wood collector in Marysville, California. Photos by Heather Hefleigh, taken in the back yard of a Mexican restaurant across the street from the Baroque Musique Shoppe in Nevada City, California.
