Billy J. Piper,
80, of Uniontown, died at 4:25 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2003 at Methodist Hospital
Henderson. Mr. Piper was a World War II veteran. He received a Purple Heart
and fought in five major battles. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Uniontown.
He was preceded in death by a son Mark Piper in 1964. Survivors include his
wife Mae Piper; two daughters Norma and Jimmy Mann of Morganfield and Pamela
Starkey of Henderson; three sons, Darrell Piper and a special friend Debbie
of Paducah, Michael and Kathy Piper of Duluth, Minn., and Brian Piper of Clay;
one sister Janet and Wayne Alvey of Corydon; one brother Walter Piper of Uniontown;
13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
at 3 p.m. today Wednesday, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Rev.
Zach Hibbs officiating. Burial will be in the City Cemetery in Uniontown. Friends
may call from noon until service time today at the funeral home.
Martha Lewis Pryor,
81, of Sturgis, died at 10:50 p.m., Sunday, June 8, 2003 at Methodist Hospital
Union County. Mrs. Pryor was a retired school teacher and had taught at Sturgis
High School and Union County High School She was a member of First Baptist Church
in Sturgis. Survivors include her husband Charles Pryor Jr.; one daughter Mary
Kay Lamb of Sturgis; one son Charles L. Pryor of Sturgis; four grandchildren,
Allison Pryor, Chad Pryor Lamb, Lindsay Pryor Moore and Kelsey Lamb; and one great-grandchild,
Conner Blair Moore. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, at 1 p.m.
at the first Baptist church in Sturgis with Rev. Don Phelps officiating. Burial
will in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until
service time at the Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Memorial contributions can
be made to the first Baptist Church.
Corley, 75, died at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, June 7, 2003. Mrs. Corley was born
Sept. 14, 1927 to Arby and Odie Reynolds. She attended both the Church of God
of Prophecy and The Alvord Church of God and loved gospel music. Survivors include
three daughters, Minnetta and her husband Bill Ohning of Evansville, Rhonda and
her husband Dennis Ryan of Evansville and Judy Gish of Newburgh; one sister, Melba
Odom of Sturgis; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; best friends Bro.
and Sis Woodrow Jackson; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday,
June 10 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Woodrow Jackson and William
Gaddis officiating. Burial was in the Caseyville Cemetery in Union County.
Brian Lamont Ray
Tyler, three months, of Morganfield, died Friday morning, June 6, 2003 at
his residence. Survivors include his mother Latkeya Tyler of Morganfield; his
father Michael Reid of Morganfield; grandparents, Rosa Burkins of Evansville,
Ind., Ralph Folden of Evansville, and Leroy and Nanny Burkins of Sturgis; one
sister, Kyiha Reid of Morganfield; three brothers, James Waddlington, Ya'rell
Tyler and Cameron Reid, all of Morganfield. Funeral services were held Tuesday,
June 10 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Brother Ronnie Burkins officiating.
Burial was in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Morganfield.
Edna Mae Phillips,
70, died at 2:45 a.m. June 4 in a local hospital in Macon, Ga. Survivors included
her husband of 50 years John of Macon; one brother James Trainer of Sturgis; one
sister Lillian Hagg of Elkton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral and burial
was held Friday, June 6, in Macon.
