Output Device Samples

   The main vector formats that are compatible with being imbedded in
   HTML documentation are "canvas", "svg", and "vml". The "vml" format was
   importable into any MSWindows office product, which was very useful. It
   has not been supported as promised, however. The "canvas" and "svg"
   modes work in all modern GUI-based browsers.
   
   Most platforms support viewing Adobe PDF and PostScript files. If you
   do not have acroread(1) look for xpdf(1), gv(1)/ghostview(1) and gs(1).
   
   VOGLE directly generates Poskanzer pixmaps; which are generally converted
   to other formats using the NetPBM+ or ImageMagick/convert packages. This
   can be done by specifying filters in the output file name:
   
      env VDEVICE=p6 VOUTPUT='|ppmtogif>image.gif' program.exe
   
   The GIF file in this sample directory was generated this way.
   
   The Metafile format CGM requires a program like ralcgm(1) or gdraw(1)
   to view the file or convert it to WebCGM format.
   
   The venerable xfig(1) program can be used to view, edit and/or convert
   plot files to other formats.
   
   The FrameMaker editor is generally required for looking at MIF files. MIF
   files are easily imported directly into FrameMaker documents in multi-page
   format.
   
   The GNU metafile is easily converted into other formats or viewed using
   the GNU plot(1) command.
