May 22, 2008 - Received a photograph of Richard B. Hendricks, Y2c from his nephew. Mr. Hendricks is doing well and is enjoying the information and photos.

Received a phone call this evening from Charles
Suydam (QM3c). He recently found out about the web site from his daughter
who had been searching the internet for information on LST 173. We had a
very nice conversation over the phone and he shared many stories.

Received an email from Steve Krahn (son of Thorpe Krahn
(CGM AA (T))) earlier this week. Steve found a very nice
photograph of LST 173 in his fathers photograph collection. I added a new section on
the web site to display the photograph "USS LST 173
Unloading on a Beach in Europe". Thanks for the contribution Steve!

After a long period of absence from my PC, I was finally able to add a
few more photos of the LST 173 crew which I received months ago, "LST 173 Crew
Photos". Thank you Steve Krahn and Richard Davies for
your contributions to the web site.
August 27, 2001 -
Thorpe Krahn (CGM AA (T)) passed away today at
the age of 88 in his home town of Minneapolis. I was contacted by his son Steve
Krahn. Thank you Thorpe for your service to the country.
August 8, 2001 -
Received an email from Richard Davies of New
Zealand. Richard's father was Able
Signalman Denis Davies of the British Royal Navy. Denis was one of the British
crewmembers who assumed control of LST 173 in December, 1944 when the ship was turned over
to the British. Richard provided information from his father's journal which is very
interesting. I will be posting it shortly.
July 27, 2001 -
Larry Mulvey (QM2c) passed away today.
Larry was a retired New York State Police Officer. He and I spoke many times over
the past few years. He had some great stories to tell about his experiences on LST
173 and he contributed a large amount of information found on this web site. Thank
you Larry for your friendship and your service to the country.

Received updated information and photographs from
Craig Pomeroy of Pomeroys Gun and Machine Shop on the LST 393 memorial project and the
anti-aircraft gun restoration. Created the "LST 393 and

April 7, 2001 - Updated the web site with 12 new photographs within the "Various Sights of War" section. A thank you goes out to Frank McLaughlin Jr. and Sr. for the photographs. Thanks guys!
April 1, 2001 - Received new photo of LST 173 from Ken Frank. Ken's father served on USS LST 32. He found the photo during a recent visit to the National Archives located in College Park, Maryland. This is the first full-length photo of LST 173 that we have been able to locate. Thanks Ken!

Had a nice conversation with Frank "Smokey" McLaughlin, S1c this

Updated the "History"
section. Added information pertaining to the following dates: 07/30/44 through
08/17/44 and 12/01/44 through 12/24/44. Obtained approximately 2 minutes of film
footage of LST 173 on Red Beach unloading vehicles during the invasion of Southern France
on August 15, 1944. Hope to convert the footage into a digital format for viewing on
this web site.

Added the verse "The Amphibious Force" which was written and submitted
by Parker Ekren (BM2c) to the "Accounts"
section. More to come.
September 4, 1999 -
Updated the "Special Features"
section to include new information and pictures of LST 32 from the journal of Edward F.
Frank Jr. (SK1c). LST 32 accompanied LST 173 in Convoy UGS 36 and throughout the
Mediterranean including the Invasion of Southern France in August of 1944.
September 1, 1999 -
Added two new photographs (W. Colk and L Mulvey, and service photo of P. Kolsom)
to the "Pictures" and "The Crew" sections. Also received the journal kept
by Parker Ekren (BM2c) in the mail today. It contains a lot of information. I
will be transcribing the journal for the web site and hope to have it on line by the end
of September.

Found crewmember! Contacted by Paul Kolsom's (MoMM3c) daughter. She is going
to provide her fathers service photo and tell him about the web site.

Found crewmember! Contacted by Vernon Zumhagen's (RM1c) Grandson who found the web
site. He will let his Grandfather know of the web site. Hope to talk with him
soon.

I received 8 new crew photos and a Red Cross Snack Bar Ticket from Larry Mulvey (QM2c)
this past week. They are now available for viewing in the "Pictures" section. Larry also sent me his diary
that he kept while on LST 173. I will have it online sometime in the next couple of
weeks. Thanks very much Larry!
