The University of Wyoming track and field team
combined for 18 individual top-three performances and a pair of first
place relay
finishes, Saturday afternoon at the 2005 Air Force All-Comers Meet at
the Cadet Field House in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Nine Cowgirls finished in the top-three of their
event and
the 4x440 relay team placed first on the day. In the relay, sophomore
Amanda Hopper, freshman Shaylee Babbitt, sophomore Aniis Hopkins and
senior Ainsley Thrailkill ran to a first place time of 4:10.09. Hopper
ran to a second place time of 7.74 in the 60 meter dash. Babbitt
finished second in the 200 meter dash (26.25), edging out junior
Adewunmi Abudu (26.44). Junior Kristin Brauneis finished third in the
mile, running to a time of 6:03.16. In the 800 meters, junior Tanice
Barnett finished second (2:22.05) and junior Maggie Diller finished
third (2:25.49). Junior Brooklan Grimes placed third in the 3000 meter
run (11:52.16). Hopkins jumped into second place in the long jump with
a distance of 17' 4 1/4" while junior Courtney Schlegel finished third
in the triple jump with a distance of 36' 1 1/2".
Nine Cowboys finished in the top-three of their events and the 4x440
relay team finished first. In that relay, sophomore Dominic Baysinger,
junior Jeremiah
Johnson, senior Jeremy Thompson,
and junior Jermaine Kelly,
ran to a first place time of 3:23.63.
Sophomore Dwight Neptune
won the 60 meter dash in a time of 6.97 and sophomore Adam Kelly
finished second with a time of 7.03. Senior Jeremy Thompson won the 800
meters in a time of 1:58.51 edging out fellow senior Matt Hudson who
ran to a second place time of 1:58.58. A pair of Cowboys finished in
the top-three of the high jump with sophomore Phillip Thomas placing
first (6' 6 3/4") and sophomore Tom Hall placing third (6' 2 3/4").
Harris placed third in the 200 meter dash (22.41), junior Eric Suter
placed second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.59) and junior Bret Zowada
placed second in the long jump (21' 1 1/2").
"Today was a typical first meet," said UW head
coach Don
Yentes.
"We need to keep getting better so we can compete at the level where we
want to be. We are just getting back into it and it feels good to get
going."
The Wyoming throwers competed at the Colorado
Open Indoor
Meet, Friday night at Balch Fieldhouse on the CU campus. The Cowboys
swept both throwing events as sophomore Tyg Long won the shot put and
senior Kyle Herl won the weight throw. Long threw the shot a distance
of
16.63 meters and Herl threw the weight 18.75 meters. Senior Zack
Schaefer finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 18.70.
Sophomore transfer Marji Bovey, from Spokane Community College,
competed for the first time as a Cowgirl. She placed third in the shot
put (13.33 meters) and sixth in the weight throw (15.10 meters).
The track and field team will return to action
next Friday
and Saturday as they travel back to Colorado Springs to compete in the
Air Force Invitational. Friday's action is set to begin at 1 p.m. and
Sunday's competition will begin at 10 a.m.
