With
more than 30 years of what I describes as "playing with technology", I
think I have helped organizations achieve their stated objectives. I
know I have helped identify and work out the kinks in getting IT to
deliver the business results that executives have told me is in “there”
somewhere. It sometimes took tuning of the underlying business process,
developing demonstrations of technology to make the problems obvious, or
tuning the business requirements / technical constraints trade offs.
Some times the "proof" demonstrated some realy "bone headers". It's all
about getting results.
I
am back at my roots as the "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" in his own
consulting practice. Been "big" and Been "small"! With and without
staff! As evidence of "big", large staffs (i.e., 290 people in 22
states) and big budgets (i.e., 90M$ capital and 45M$ expense) in key
areas such as applications development, networking, operations,
security, recovery, business process reengineering, and even headed an
individual business unit. As evidence of "small", there isn't anything
smaller than a one man consulting business on twice. Burnt out doing it
the first time, but had a great time doing it.
John
is very proud of his Bachelor's degree from Manhattan College in
Electrical and Electronic Engineering, achieved when IT was only
available to the big companies. I serve more than a thousand of my
fellow alums as the "collector in chief" of Jasper Jottings. A
life long learner, he has every year taken -- often at his own expense
-- one business and one technology educational activity. The inveterate
tinker he runs a garage datacenter, include three flavors of 802.11,
where he offers services to others interested in R&D.
