Early 2007 POSITIONS OF REP. BAIRD, SENATOR MURRAY, AND SENATOR CANTWELL ON IRAQ POLICY.

BAIRD

There is a long list of legislation in the House, but Rep. Baird has not supported it at this time. Rep. Baird's speech during the House non-binding resolution debate (2/15) is here. Another statement on Iraq is on his website . Rep. Baird has done very positive things. For example, he co-sponsored the SMART security platform in the last congress. Rep. Baird sendt a letter to Defense Sec. Rumsfeld opposing DOD recruiting database - details here.
2-20-07 Letter on Iran policy here.

CANTWELL

Senator Cantwell's 1-28-07 letter about Iraq policy is here . More information on her votes is at the FCNL site . In the last congress she voted for the weak Levin-Reed amendment in June, but not for the stronger amendment by Kerry-Feingold- Boxer amendment .

MURRAY

Senator Murray's latest statements on Iraq is on her website . In her response to Mr. Bush's speech introducing the "surge" she writes: "Instead of escalating the war we should carefully redeploy our troops, require the Iraqis to take control of their own political and military stability, and work with neighbors in the region on a broader stabilization effort, as recommended by the Iraq Study Group." In the last congress, she voted against the Levin-Reed amendment AND the Kerry-Feingold- Boxer amendment in June.

Vancouver for Peace Petition on our response to Hurricane Katrina
We turned in almost 200 hundred signatures in 2005 and early 2006. The petition connects the dots of a military budget, poverty and classism and racism. View the petition.
