Camping out (or in)
With the Vibe or Matrix
You already know there is plenty of space in your gearbox to bring along the comforts of home, or at least a roomy tent and sleeping bags. But can you skip the unloading and setup part, and make yourself comfortable in the car?
Thanks to the fold-flat seats, the “box” end of your gearbox can be a pretty hospitable place to sleep. That is, if you’re a Munchkin. Even with the rear seats down, the front-to-back dimension won’t fit anyone much over 5 feet (1.5 meters). If you’re average height, try pushing the front seats all the way forward, and sleep diagonally (you’re alone, right?) But we oversize humans need to take more drastic measures.
Buy
yourself a slab of firm foam padding, 2 feet by 5 feet (61 by 152 cm) and about
5 inches (12 cm) thick. The thickness
is important because it will bring you up to the height of the folded-down
front passenger seat, and you can extend your feet into the front. You will have a tolerably comfortable place
to sleep, but if you want company, start hanging out with short people!
