Tips on how to get on a team
May/15/2007 10:25 PM
If you
are interested in working on a team, but seem to be
having trouble getting selected, here are some tips
to consider. When a Lay Director begins team
selection, some of the things they will look at
include your attendance at the Cluster, your
participation in a reunion group, and your service at
your church. Remember, if you are faithful in small
things, you will be faithful in big things. Check
your faithfulness on the small things.
Next, get to know your board members, or perhaps I should say, make sure your board members get to know you. Your Board has a finger on the pulse of the Community. They know where the action is, and when it comes time to select a volunteer, they can only choose from who they know.
Third, when a Lay Director is announced, make a point to let that person know you are interested in serving. You should have filled out a Service Sheet, but if you want to get selected, it can’t hurt to make sure the future Lay Directors know what you are interested in. This is even more important if the future Director is not from our Cluster.
Finally, and I saved the most important for last, pray about it. Ask God to open the door for you at the right time and for the right position. Then trust Him to do just that. I find that when I wait on Him, I am never disappointed in the long run. He really does know what He is doing!

Alabama Emmaus Community announces changes
May/15/2007 09:28 PM
John
Schuessler, the Shoals Cluster's Board Rep, announced
a couple of changes by the Alabama Emmaus Community
Board that will impact the Shoals Cluster. The first
is that the two Walks per year limit for working a
team has been dropped. Second, the Shoals grouping
will now have three walks per year, instead of two.
These changes, considered together should enhance
Cluster member's opportunities to serve. In order to
staff a third team, more people will be needed, but
if there is a shortage in any area, such as the music
team, a Cluster member could work a third walk if
needed. Most Cluster members are probably not in a
position to work three Walks a year (time off work,
cost of being a team member, time spent in
preparation, etc) so this should make it easier to
get on a team.
