Shirley Avery update

Update
information:
She had her surgery this past Thursday. She has Stage 3 Secondary Ovarian Cancer also known as Primary Peritoneal Cancer. The doctor removed the mass in her abdomen and ovaries. Saw small cancer cells on other organs that were too small to remove. She will start chemo in about 3 weeks. The doctor says there is a 70% chance of remission. She will have 6 rounds of chemo, will lose her hair and will be sick. The family is taking one day at a time and letting God work.
Please continue to pray for Shirley and Clyde, their daughters Denise, Tammy and Rhonda and their husbands and children.

UPDATE: 12/2/2008
talked to Louise's sister last night........she was not as upbeat, but was OK with things as they are.......Louise is still in ICU........she is still pretty much bedfast, she was sitting up some on Friday.......she was allowed to eat some soft foods Saturday.......she only has a cathater and one IV left...........but she isn't progressing as quickly as Bit (the sister, I don't know her real name) would like.........she is still weak.......Bit is hoping they will move her to a room in a few more days so she can spend more time with her......... she can only visit during visiting hours..........Bit can be reached by Louise's cell phone until 9am in the morning and after 7pm in the evening..........she is staying in a motel close to the hospital........Louise's blood work is normal and the doctors tell her, they do not know why she was losing blood, but it appears to have stopped and that just happens sometimes........Bit says there is a doctor for almost every organ in the body she thinks....she tells Louise who calls every morning.....she is not making any projections about when they will be coming home........she asks for our continued prayers

Please
pray for Barbara, age 67, who lives in Atlanta. Her
husband is in the VA hospital with Alzheimers,
parkinsons, etc. In order to maintain her lifestyle,
she needs a job. She was working at an exterminator's
office, for some people from her church, but was laid
off yesterday.
Also , ask God to lift her depression.

They
have changed the date for Kirsten's (my daughter)
oral surgery to this Wednesday at 9 am. She
will be there they are saying until 11am and then we
will be at home. Although this is considered
"minor" surgery....it is never that when your loved
one is the one in the chair!
Please be in prayer for Dr. Lane and his staff and for minimal amount of pain for Kirsten.
I am scheduled off Wednesday through Friday but I will have access to my e-mail or feel free to call me at 320-1186.
Thank you in advance!

UPDATE: 11/20/2008
Praise the Lord! We are home and everything went ok. The only semi-issue was that she required more numbing then the "normal" patient which required 2 more shots...one in the roof of her mouth and one under her tongue. She said she cried when they did that but that was the only thing she felt. She is in no pain right now. I just gave her the first of her pain medicine...staying ahead of the game. She is trying to eat...more drooling then eating as her face is still numb!! She has like a guard over her gums right now. Dr Lane said they could be removed Saturday but that the gums would be very tender for a couple of weeks.
That you so much for all of your prayers...they were felt and I know that He is in control!
Much love to you all.

I
ask for your prayers for Shirley Avery, the mother of
my best friend from high school. The doctors have
found a mass in her abdomen which they think could be
ovarian cancer. She will have surgery in Birmingham
on Nov. 20. The doctors have said that until the
biopsy is done, it won’t be known for sure if it is
cancer.
Please pray for the Avery family.

11/10/08 19:25
Laura
is the daughter of a dear friend of mine, Mary Jim
& Oscar Beck. From time to time I have
requested prayer for Laura. She has fought a
tough and persistent battle with a rare form of
cancer: from kidney, to neck and spine since
2003. A few weeks ago, she lost the use of her
legs from the tumors in her spine
Laura will have a radiation procedure called "Gamma Knife" as an outpatient at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis TOMORROW. This is the specialized form of radiation. This procedure involves a one time dose of radiation using a very strong, highly concentrated beam. It is supposed to last only about an hour and a half after all the preliminary checking in, etc., is done. She is scheduled for the procedure at 1:00 p. m. They expect Monday to be a very long, tiring day for Laura. We thank you for the special prayers you pray for her.
www.oneamazingjourney.com . . . check out Laura's web page for background on her illness.

UPDATE: 11/11/2008
We went to Memphis yesterday and Laura had the Gamma Knife radiation procedure done. Everything went well and Dr. Sills took good care of her like he always does. We got home late last night but it is always good to come home. Laura is going to be sore from the procedure a few days due to the mechanical "contraptions" they had to put her to make sure the radiation was pinpointed on the spots.... Most of the possible side effects to the treatment are immediate (headache)....Laura did not have any of this and we pray it stayse that way.
Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts....

Wednesday, 11/19/08...We are back in Starkville tonight. Laura was discharged from the Columbus hospital today. She is feeling better; but as Shane's message below outlines, there are still some issues to deal with. Dr. Whitecar and the hospital lab spent several trying to identify what appeared to be a second strain of bacteria that was causing Laura's infection. Finally, they decided the second strain was really just more of the first strain they had already identified. So they sent her home with antibiotics to combat that one. We are definitely glad to be back at Laura and Shane's home. Hopefully just being in her own home will speed Laura's recovery.
In addition to continuing to pray for the return of feeling and mobility in her lower body, Laura asked that you pray with us about her eating and digestion. Although she has a great appetite, the recent radiation on her neck and upper back has caused he r esophagus to be irritated. That makes it difficult for her to eat. Thanks for continuing to pray for all her needs.
Laura will have a follow-up visit at Dr. Whitecar's clinic in Columbus next Tuesday, November 25.

Sharon Amey
11/10/08 19:23
I
found out this morning my Mother, Sharon Amey, is in
the hospital (St. Johns in St Paul, MN). She
went to the ER last night for her gall bladder and
she had some abnormal blood work so they kept her.
She is having surgery today. Thank you in
advance for lifting her and the medical staff up...
Also, her husband, Roland Amey, is scheduled for back surgery this Wednesday. They will try and shave one vertebra to see if that will relieve his pain, if not, they will have to go back in and remove 2.
Finally please pray for my sisters, Terri and Juli who will be helping with the recovery processes for them both.
May God continue to bless each one of you!
In Him-Lori
UPDATE: 11/11/2008
She got back to her room around 11 pm last night. The surgery was more involved then the doctors anticipated. A 30 minute surgery turned into 2.5 hours! The doctor said that her gall bladder should have been removed years ago. It was actually growing into her liver and attached itself to a vein which was nicked while removing.
This morning she had another procedure which revealed a huge stone that was blocking her small intestine. They put in a stint in her pancreas and should be removing it this Friday. They hope to release her tomorrow.
Thank you SO much for your prayers.

Please
be in prayer for my nephew Alan Kirby. He is in
Birmingham in ICU on a ventilator. Alan went to

if he picked up something there. The diagnosis
had changed several times in the last 3 days.
Alan is very critical and I covet all your prayers on
behalf of my family. Much thanks and love,

The paper had a longer version of the story that mentioned he was hit from behind and fishtailed off the road. He had a punctured lung and broken ribs, among other things. Please lift him up in prayer, as well as Liz and their family.

Just heard from Martha Miller that her daughter, Vicki Watson, is improved. Thanks so much for your prayers!
Vicki's hepatitis test was negative. Her blood work on Tuesday showed a 60% improvement. The doctor said all indications are that Vicki has a bad virus and a urinary tract infection. She expects to go home from the hospital today, or may have gone yesterday.
Please keep the Watson's and Martha in your prayers and give God glory for all He has done!
